Exporting/importing weapons - any experience?
Discussion
Legitimate reason! No criminality planned here.
A slightly odd scenario: one which I’ll dig into, but PH being the place it is, someone may have some knowledge.
Next year my daughter and the competition dance team she’s a part of will be competing in France. This naturally requires military levels of planning (not sure who the bigger divas are - the dancers or the school principal
). Either way, it’s going to fall to a grown up (ie me) to find a solution…
One of the dance routines involves a section with nunchucks. Now, there’s one thing using these in the U.K., but I’m certain it’s a different matter trying to take these in and out of the EU. Travel will be by plane or train for the dancers (though I might be taking a separate stage in a van).
I do know that nunchucks are considered to be offensive weapons for import into the U.K. purposes, but no idea about heading into France. Is it even possible to travel with weapons or so we need to find another solution?
Any experience gratefully received..!

Saw that when I was doing some googling just. So then the question is the legality of having them in France.(There is a separate challenge that the girls have all been instructed to take their - enormous - dance bags as cabin luggage to avoid the risk of costumes being lost. So need to find some willing carriers of these items…).

I think that’s going to have to be the answer. I’ve been reading a French wiki entry (best schoolboy French) that indicates they are ok to be taken between home at the relevant venue so long as they aren’t immediately accessible (ie in a bag).
This has been helpful to talk through. Thanks!

No problem. Worst case scenario (if they are indispensable) is to find a shop that sells them while you are there.
Good thinking.

Why not use foam nunchucks used for kids martial arts training
It would look crap
Edit - plus the same laws apply anyway.
2nd edit - the training ones on Amazon actually look pretty good. The only foam ones I've seen are the day-glo ones.

They’ve done hundreds of hours of practice (I feel like I’ve watched these dance routines for hundreds of hours). They won’t want to use anything other than the ones they have - and definitely not foam!)

Have you spoken to the competition organisers?
Not yet. And to be honest, given they are dealing with competitors from across Europe, I’m pretty sure they will just tell us to work it out ourselves. I’ve yet to come across a dance competition organiser who is that helpful..! Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
