Those whizzy cake mixer whisk thingies...
Discussion
Like they use on bake off.
My wife has decided she wants one and I have a couple of quotations;
Decent one for a reasonable price?
What do they do that an electric whisk and a plastic bowl can't?
Are they worth it? (she did like to bake cakes when she has time)
Are they only good for making cakes? Ie/ what other mixey stuff can you mix?
Thanks

You’ll probably be told that the KitchenAid Artisan is ‘the one’ and nothing else will do! Have a look at the Harts of Stur website - they normally have some good deals. Not much discount but extras for free
We’ve got one and it is very well built and feels like it will last a lifetime. It looks good too - huge range of colours and finishes to choose from, as well as a range of bowls. The standard one is stainless steel but they sell crockery and glass versions as well.
You can also buy add ones such as grinders, sausage makers, ice cream maker etc.
We use ours a lot - cakes, dough, crumble, whipping cream etc.
We’ve also got a food processor which my wife had to have which has been used precisely once. Utter waste of space and money for us - the KitchenAid is far more useful.

As has been said the Kitchen Aid Artisan is the one.
My wife bakes professionally, (from home), so we have two. Initially in case one breaks down but now we have two they are invariably going most of the time i.e. one doing sponge with the other doing buttercream, two buttercream colours etc.
Anyway the crux is that these things are SOLID, (very heavy - even more so than the 1970’s Kenwood machines), and we have them running probably 10+ hours a week each.
We had one of them for some time before she started doing it full time so it is now 10 years old. It now has a small vibration and needs a service but still going well. She did leave it on high speed the other day and came back to find it on the floor - presumably it vibrated itself off after leaving for about 10 minutes. Not ideal but in spite of the 1m fall it is working fine! Goodness knows how it did not crack the tiled floor.
So, even with an old machine that has, (once), jumped off the counter they just run and run. The beaters, (K Beater mainly), need replacing every so often but probably 5+ years of 10+ hours a week and we’ve only replaced a couple.
They are definitely the way to go.

Just to say thanks all to those on here who obviously work for KitchenAid
Just ordered the 175 as it comes with a decent amount of accessories.
Annoyingly my wife keeps mentioning she really likes the pistachio colour which just so happens to be the only colour not heavily discounted but hey ho. Managed however, to find a 7% off code from KitchenAid so £464 in total.
She'd better bake some bl00dy good cakes!!!
