Who’s going to be getting one then? I’m sorely tempted but I do have form for jumping in with both feet and then coming unstuck;

I bought an original Xbox because they said Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix 4 will be coming out on it. It didn’t.

I bought a PS3 to play what I thought would be the greatest Gran Turismo ever (GT5) just as soon as they release the improved sounds. They didn’t.

I bought an Xbox one x because they said it was built with VR in mind. It wasn’t.

And now I have a PS5 gathering dust since March because I read that PS VR 2 would be coming out this year and, well, they are bound to do a VR update for Gran Turismo 7…

I have a reasonably decent racing wheel and seat and I’m desperate for a decent VR racing experience. I don’t have the budget or time for a PC. What are the chances that PSVR2 will answer my dreams.

It is obscenely expensive too (£530) but I’m tempted to pre order one in the anticipation that a few racing titles will be announced before launch.

I bought the first PSVR, enjoyed it for what it was but wasn’t really into any of the games.

I’m really tempted to get the new one, especially as I get the feeling it will be a sod to get hold off if you miss the boat, but I’m not sure if any decent games will be out for a while after release.

And it’s expensive!

It's quite spendy.

I had the first one as well and it performed well on what was a pretty low powered machine (for VR) it was a PITA though to set up, you needed a camera and the extra controllers to get the best out of it so it just didn't get used and I passed it on for what I paid after about a month. It just wasn't as good as my PC VR setup.

This looks a lot better, inside out tracking so no complex set up. Controllers included.

If I can put down a deposit in Nov(like for the Steamdeck) I'm in. If Sony want all the cash up front then I can't really commit just before Christmas.

As above - the PSVR1 was fun but a pain to set up and had a few issues (the lenses steaming up all the time got on my wick so much I removed the rubber surround to stop the problem) . £530 is a bit steep but given the specs it isn't wildly unreasonable - still as there is no backward compatibility for the previous VR games it is a stab in the dark (if it supported the current range of games I could easily justify it).
On the fence as I'm tempted to just get a VR set up for the PC instead (I already have some VR capable games that came with their non-VR counterpart) and really want to give Elite-Dangerous a go in VR.

I'm guessing there is no chance it will work with PCVR?

Though I use dual sense on my PC so who knows! If so I'll definitely buy one.

Can't really justify buying a PS5 after upgrading my GPU at peak prices.

Given what they are charging and the fact that it seems to use a single USB-C cable, I think they'll open it up for PCVR use at some point. It does have some great features and would be seen as decent value in the PC space compared to other wired headsets from HTC and Valve.

The total cost of £530 (plus PS5) for a fully playable system is just ridiculous. They are going to be selling to a subset of existing PS5 owners, many of whom are unlikely to want to spend more than the cost of a console on a VR headset, no matter how good it is.

Sony also said it won't play OG PSVR games, which is a mistake IMO. They might pale compared to what is now possible but many were still very good and a lot of their potential customer base (PS fans who are interested in VR) are going to already own a library of them. It would have been a good bonus to offer to potential buyers.

I can't believe that they have went with a wired connection - after getting a Quest2 I would never go back to a tethered device. Playing native games on the headset or streaming VR via WiFi from my PC, it's just way better without wires.

they may open it up and someone will inevitably work out a hack but VR can be a pain at the best of times so I wouldn't bother.
If you want 'cheap' PCVR get a Quest2.

I have quest 2 already, but it's overdue an upgrade.

Yeah, there's not much out there that is a truly meaningful upgrade to the Quest2 (for PCVR gaming) without spending at least a couple of hundred quid more than Quest 2, even at the new 100 quid higher pricepoint.

(And there's really nothing that matches the wireless gaming capability that is built in to Q2. All the PC headsets are wired, which is a no-no for me. There are some add-on wireless solutions but these add cost and hassle.)

If you were buying as someone new to VR (for PC or standalone), Pico 4 represents a modest spec upgrade at a comparable price to Quest2 but it's not enough for Quest 2 owners to justify upgrading, IMO. Especially if you've bought a lot of Quest 2 games.

Still, in the context of wired headsets, the PSVR2 would represent good value for the PC if it was compatible. I would guess that Sony will eventually add official PC compatibility but not until they have got it established in the PS5 space. They will be counting on their cut of VR game sales to make money off the hardware which is likely still subsidised, even at the official RRP. They would make nothing from game sales on the PC side of things.

I did register for the chance to pre-order via Sony a few days ago but haven't heard anything back. I follow a PSVR2 group on facebook and some have had responses already so i think I've missed out.

I was kind of hoping it would be around £450. But the specs are impressive and when compared to other higher end headsets so it seems pretty reasonable, especially with the Quest 2 now at £400 aswell.

I'm hoping for some patches to older PSVR games to make them compatible, you would think it would be easy money for developers to port games to use the new hardware even if they don't spend much effort on updating the graphics etc.. A lot of the games would be massively improved by just improving the controls as the old motion controllers really are rubbish on some games.

I have the pre-order link.

I'm wavering, it's a lot of money and I already have a PC VR headset. If it was just a deposit then I would have ordered.

Ok, interesting.
That wasn't clear on the order page.

Edit - Found it in the small print. Ordered along with the charging station.

Also managed to get a pre-order, went for the basic bundle.

I'm reading there will be some PSVR games ported to work with PSVR2 so hopefully there might be a reasonable library of games i already own to play early on.

I am waiting to see the reviews more in-depth as to how they are for glasses wearers, tried to seat info but it is a little sparse at the moment.

I'm waiting to see if anything good comes out in Q1 like quest 3 or apple AR.

The Quest 2 is a fantastic bit of kit and I'm sure the Q3 will be a decent upgrade. However since I upgraded my son's PC GPU he hasn't played a standalone Q2 game, games like Beat Saber are massively improved on PC and all games generally run and look much better via PC link to the point where we only buy them via Steam.
I'm expecting PSVR2 to be very impressive and a significant jump from a standalone headset.
