Been a long time Single malt lover, up till recently we've been using an old pair of '100 Piper's' glasses which we've had since 80's, sadly one got broken and it's proven difficult to replace with a glass of similar 'in the hand' feel & quality. I've bought 2 sets of 4 lead crystal glasses off ebay, but they are miserable in the hand compared to the '100 piper's' glasses.
Can anyone suggest a nice lead crystal glass to replace the 'piper's'?
Ideally they need to be 80-90 mm diameter, staight sided [not tapered], and 90mm+ tall, the 'pipers' hold 320ml full, any suggestions need to hold at least this muchsmile
>

Here's a pic of the original piper's and the new glasses, the rounded glass feels much better than the tapered one, but lacks a lot of weight compared to the piper's glass .

I really like the Edinburgh Crystal glasses, they went out of business a while ago but there are plenty on ebay. I'm yet to find a better quality current alternative.

Worth trying out a Glencairn if you haven't already, totally different from the small tumblers but adds a bit to the whisky experience.

Waterford Crystal Olann match your specs, should be easy to get online.

Thanks for those suggestions:-
The Glencairn are waay too small IMO, our normal shot size would overflow from themsmile
I'll check out the Edinburgh & Waterford, - it's difficult to judge online, much better to hold it in the handsmile

Do you know whether the Edinburgh & Waterford are Moulded lead crystal glasses?
The 2 sets I bought are moulded and feel real cheap.
What I really want is hand blown Lead Crystal glasses, just a simple Heavy lead glass will do, [no patterns on glass]
Most glasses on ebay are described as crystal, when its actually cheap 'No Lead' glass

Just checked Waterford Olann are too small - only 180mlfrown

I have those - in two different sizes and use them for whisky
The larger size is close to what you want at 330ml:

I would suggest Dartington Crystal glasses
https://www.dartington.co.uk/drinkware/whisky-glas...

but I think they may be a little on the small size and some are tapered (double old fashioned is c. 300ml)

Slightly off topic:>
Me and wife were just discussing the difficulty in finding decent ‘chunky’ Whisky tumbler’s, when out of the blue she asked me – I wonder where do they get the Chunky whisky glasses used in various Films & TV series etc. nearly every show uses them - They are never the ‘weedy’ Glencairn type – but Large ‘man sized’ flat sided clear glasses with a thick base!! Are these glasses ‘Props’ specially made for the show’s & Films – Anyone know?? Any other Malt whisky drinkers noticed ‘em and wondered ??

We had those Edinburgh Crystal glasses with our "nice" crockery when I was a kid. We lived about half an hour down the road from where the were made.

I have classic soda glasses in 4 different sizes, they do the job for whatever you're drinking.

LSA should have something:

https://www.lsa-international.com/drinkware/tumble...

Doubt they’ll hold half a bottle for you though.

Thanks for that, best I've seen yet, BUT as you said they're made for the green's, they're so small and made from cheapo glass!!
A normal sized selection made from Heavy Lead crystal would be a big seller. Seems crazy Handmaking and blowing them from 'cheap' glass - Duh what am I missing here!!

Norlan Glasses

I'm sure the recommendation came from here

A bit unusual, but work for admiring colour, nosing and tasting. Perhaps not drinking. They do a nice tumbler for that purpose

I may be due a parrot here but why would you buy glasses that don't work for drinking out of?

I have some - they can be drunk out of!
but I could see a nerdy approach of nosing in one glass then drinking from another!
they are good except very lightweight and therefore used less...

A bit off topic - but having secured the replacement pipers glasses, I had to decide what to do with the glasses I bought to replace 'em in the original photo.
Here's what I came up with:>
>

>
End result is incredibly tactile in the hand, IMO its because of the sharper edges to the diamond shaped cuts,
>
It took 10 minutes down the shed and an old oilstone to make the glass frosted and givethe diamond cut the edgesmile
>
After all that weight was down 2 grams from 328 to 326 grams. OOI the pipers weigh 398 grams, so much heavier in the hand.
