Possibly the most emotionally stifling, embarassing and painful memories I have, are trying for all I was worth to supress explosive laughter or giggles, at the most inappropriate time :)
Rather than bore you with my own 'in church as a youngster' tales, a true story from my girlfriend!
I cant remember who died, a grandparent perhaps, but donkeys years ago when she and her siblings were children, their family was grieving and on its way to a funeral. Who should turn up at the last minute having come straight from work but an uncle (or some not too distant relative). God knows what he was thinking, but said relative didnt have time to change cloths (praps he chose not to?) before the funeral.
What line of work was he in? :) He was... (I swear!) a clown! Cue much tittering and total inability to keep a straight face amongst the children, having a clown amidst the sombre funeral procession. Getting the giggles when you're older is much more embarassing though :yes:

I'm laughing inappropriatley at work just reading this thread 
I suffer from the giggles far more than is normal, I will seriously just burst out laughing walking down the street just by looking at someone who looks funny.
Worst time so far though was at school, in a class with the meanest nastiest teacher that everyone was scared of my friend set me off and then I set him off and neither of us could stop laughing, she screamed at us and made us stand at the front of the class but that just made it worse! I laughed uncontrollably for the rest of the lesson and somehow barely mananged to pull myself together to promise not to do it again, only to get out the door and almost collapse in laughter, the best part is I was really laughing at nothing in particular and when the teacher demanded to know what I was laughing at I couldn't answer!
To this day I suffer greatly with uncontrollable laughter, the more inappropriate the situation the more you want to laugh, if you have a sibling or friend who knows this you often end up sending each other off with a sly smile.
God help me if I ever joined the army, I'd be doing a million pushups each day

I remember those uncalled for spontaneous outbursts of laughter left a smile which would send you to the loony bin which (although you subcosciously tried!) just couldnt be wiped away with your sleeve. Ohh the stares, the shame 
Just the other day I was walking home saw this girl walking towards me looking very serious, took all my willpower not to laugh, then she trips and stumbles right in front of me, oh well open the floodgates I cracked up and she got angry and said 'don't laugh at me!' which just made it even funnier.
Then to top it off a few days later I was walking home again and saw her at a bus stop and immediately cracked up again with her looking really embarassed
. I'm suprised I don't get hit more really. I wonder if there's a cure...

I must admit, on my wedding rehearsal, myself, my now wife, the best man & various other people were in uncontrolable fits of giggles when the vicar started laughing at a mistake he made. The mistake wasn't that funny, but when the vicar started to laugh, his laugh was like an astmatic donkey on helium. That set us all off, It must have been about 10 minutes before we could all compose ourselves to go back to the rehearsals proper.
There were a few smirks on the big day when we got to the part in the service that had caused the giggles on the rehearsal. but luckily all was OK in the end

I feel really really guilty, but I got the giggles with my sister at my granny's funeral - please granny, forgive me. My sis and I were listening to the funeral mass and then they had the bit in which you sing and all that. Of course, she and I didn't have a clue since we are not church goers, but my bf at the time, a very posh and young university professor, long hair, goatee, black leather jacket... he started singing the prayer song in a falsetto old-lady style voice. Cue my sis and I looked at each other in amazament and started to get red with the imminent giggle attack. It was so hard to keep a straight face at that moment... we ended up shedding some tears with the effort of keeping a straight face. I think my sister also feels really guilty for this one actually...
a cousin of mine met his wife at the local operatic society, so when they got married the choir was somewhat better than your average church choir.. what got everyone giggling was that they came down the aisle to the 'Halleujah Chorus' which went on.. and on... and on... and on... to the point where the priest's shoulders were shaking with the effort of not laughing.
