I’m retired on the state pension of £740 / 4 weeks, married.

I also have a couple of work pensions that pay £270 / month.

Also a decent sum in drawdown that I dip into as and when necessary.

I’ve been offered a job for a few hours a week paying about 80 quid.

Is it worth taking as in will I lose more on tax and NI that it isn’t worth doing?

It’s night shift which I’m used to so it won’t even impact my normal life which is tempting but if I’m losing a big portion of that 80 quid then I won’t do it.

I’ve always been self employed so ‘wages’ are a new concept.

Use this ..

Start by just putting your pension earnings in, note the totals and then add what you think the part time role will pay and see what the difference is ...

You’ll lose 20% of the £80.

Your pensions are using up all your personal allowance so anything above this gets taxed at basic rate. You won’t have any NI to pay.
