Hey. Just messaging to see if anyone else has had issues with their series x. 18 months after purchase it simply will not turn on. Microsoft were not interested and wanted to charge me £284 to fix it.
Taken to a local place who have diagnosed that the IC power unit is not working and needs replacing- problem is the part is unavailable.
What a load of crap.

So I sent that to the company I think and they said it’s not that part- so I don’t know. Poor from Microsoft either way I think. A £450 piece of kit that doesn’t last 18 months.

Indeed. Did you buy it direct from Microsoft?

Is it plugged directly into the wall? The Xbox consoles should not be plugged into any kind of extension/surge protector.

They have surge protectors built in already, and some extension cables can limit voltage. I was told by Microsoft Support not to do this a while back when I had a similar issue with a previous Xbox. I’ve tried and my SX will not switch on with the protector I have at home which my PS5, LGC1 and Nintendo Switch are plugged into. From the wall outlet it works fine.

I have no idea on the technicalities on why, but if Microsoft say don’t I’d be going with that.

They only have one years warranty. They will do nothing.

Fair enough, but Microsoft Support has told me many things over the years - I'd say more than half of it has been wrong. laugh

Unless your extension cord is a few hundred metres long or you have created your own using wet string and insulating tape, I'd wager the voltage drop on a decent 4-6gang, 1m surge protector will be in the range of "bugger all".

For a company that allegedly cannot manufacture a power supply that can handle a small drop in voltage (which would still be well within tolerance), you are putting a lot of faith in their in-built surge protector!

I think I could have got a 2 year warranty there was an offer. Mine plugged in the wall, well ventilated. Not had any issue but around 18 months old so who knows, touch wood

I’d push a bit harder if you are in the EU or UK. Their published warranty doesn’t over ride your consumer protection and 18 months is not very long.
