Hip replacement - Lithuania

Anyone any experience?

My dad’s been told he needs both hips done. NHS wait 5+ years, private is over 25k.

Family friend had theirs done in Lithuania, pretty much half the cost of going private in the UK and apparently you’re looked after from you get off the plane til you’re back on it. Nordorthopaedics is the clinic, Google is full of rave reviews just looking a few more real world experiences if possible.

My Mum probably needs a hip replacement, she was told 4 months wait at an appointment at Wrightington Hospital (specialist orthopaedics hospital in the North West) a couple of weeks ago.

5 year wait sounds like the consultant doesn’t think it needs doing yet.

I personally wouldn’t go abroad for both hips. Far too much aftercare required.

Werent hip replacements basically invented in Wrightington?

There will be zero 2yr waits in the NHS in the very near future and next target to hit is 18 months. Northern Ireland is an exception.
There is zero chance I would recommend any of my relatives go to Lithuania.
If the time is right for a THR, ask your GP to find a shorter wait in a nearby UK county.

We’re in Northern Ireland. One of the hips is particularly bad and needs done now - 5 years is the estimated waiting time for that here unfortunately.

They’ve said he may get a little longer out of the second if the first is done as it may take some pressure off the ‘good’ hip from what I gather, although he wasn’t recommended to have both done at once anyway.

Hmmmmmm.
I don't know what the solution is for the NI Ortho problem. There was talk of flying us UK surgeons over to do the backlog. At £7k/wk.
I still wouldn't go to a non Western Europe country if it was me.

How long after the operation does the care extend? Measured in hours or days?
How will you get back to the UK post-op?
When your father returns to the UK, are you going to fund private physiotherapy as well?

I would never recommend going abroad for surgical procedures. Far too much to go wrong. No aftercare provided.

I knew NI was bad, but I didn't think they'd given up completely!

It's a while since I've done a hip replacement, but for 7k a week I'd remember pretty quickly. Where do I sign up. I've only been to Belfast once but it was lovely.
