Kettle crisps have gone down hill
Discussion
Is it me or are crisps nowhere near as nice anymore, they cost more and they have less inside them.
Kettle crisps used to be the pinnacle of crisps but now they’re just tougher and less tasty.
Tyrells ready salted are also too tough with not enough salt. They actually hurt my teeth sometimes.
There’s only crisps I had that were nice recently are only sold in waitrose and they’re £3 a pack unless they’re on offer, I bought them on offer for £2 and they reminded me of what kettle ready salted used to taste like.
I don’t know what they’re called but they’re in a pink packet.
Can anybody recommend some nice crisps?

Mackies crisps are the best for texture.
No way, I keep making the mistake of getting them thinking they’re good, getting disappointed because of the texture and then 6 months later repeat. I always found kettle slightly too oily but they were good but prices are just too high now so it’s whatever’s on offer. Tesco ranges and Co-op’s own seem to taste good.

Try Aldi / Lidl premium ones, very decent and not expensive. Some recently recommended flavours in the "Aldi food & drink" thread.
Lidl Deluxe Cheddar and red onion are the best, but seem to be in short supply. It's hit-or-miss as to whether my local store has any stock. the sea salt and black pepper ones are a reasonable substituteFrankAbagnale said:
Those “Torres” crisps that you have to remortgage to buy are just divine. What a crisp.
Whenever you see headlines of "cocaine bust in Spain as pipeline of drugs for onward distribution is seized", do not believe them. None of the drugs are intended for resale, they all go to Torres so they can make their Frank fyi, they now do a 0.5kg bag...
Oncxe had a bag of kettle cridps that was full of oil.
This was about 20+ years ago so wrote them a letter of complaint.
Turn out what had happend was 2ccrisps had stuck together with a bit of oil sandwiched between them. At some point this unstuck in the bag and soaked thd bag in oil.
Kettle were very appologetic and sent us a box of the full range of their big bags which were tasty and dry.
Sadly I wont take the risk and dont buy kettle anymore.
There is still no better salted crisp than a bag of Smiths with the seperate salt sachet.

we had a hair grip in a bag of kettle once
also alot of the own brands are made by just one company and its funny when you say you dont like one but like another when they are from the same factory. its not like there isnt differences in the manufacture but its usually down to people picking out bad crisps and amount/quality of seasoning the frying etc is usually always the same

Correct, carried out a visitation for work and Mackies were knocking out their own brand and Lidl/Aldi…also alot of the own brands are made by just one company and its funny when you say you dont like one but like another when they are from the same factory. its not like there isnt differences in the manufacture but its usually down to people picking out bad crisps and amount/quality of seasoning the frying etc is usually always the same
