My fantastic car has now done 2500 miles. One thing new over the MkI, oh, err, the Tuscan is that I've noticed the idle sometimes hunts. It can get bad enough that the car can stall. But, if I leave the car idling after the commute home for 2-3 minutes it suddenly starts idling back on 700 rpm dead and the problem goes away (for a number of weeks).

It's not like the idle rpm dropping on my previous car. Anyone else noticed this ?

Cheers,

Andy.

Hi Andy,

You describe my cars behaviour perfectly... I have discussed my concerns with the guys at the garage on several occasions and their response.... don't worry.... T.A.D.T.S!

Hello Andy,

You will find my experience “explained” in Lady Di's forum:” A year in ........."

Had the same problem again recently and pieces are falling together concerning the cause.
When?
1. when driving slowly with the A/C on
2. sometimes when driving slowly immediately after some heavy accelerations
3. in very slow traffic

In these circumstances IMHO the motor management system supplies to many fuel to the engine resulting in irregular RPM’s (500-800)
The engine stalls – restart – keeping op the rev’s by the throttle – followed by one small pause of inattention and the engine stalls again!!!!
So each restart or unnecessary blip of the throttle gives the engine “unusable” fuel and thereby irregular RPM’s

Last time it happened I was so pissed of I took her to the highway, went far over the speed limit, got back and the problem disappeared quickly.

I’m BEGINNING to understand why a car is feminine in England!

Question:"Is it a privilege of the 4.0L version?"

Ditto as Koen said.
Mine has been adjusted several times. Sometimes it will last for only a couple of miles or less before the revs play up, or like at present, I have been driving for a few weeks with only the very occasional drop.
The trouble is that all the dealers seem to have different opinions as to the cause of the problem. I have been told everything from faulty throttle springs to fuel flooding which confuses the ecu.
As now at least four or five people have commented on the same problem, you would think there should be a definative cause and cure.

My t350 does that too. However, it's difficult to predict when it will do it (I'm beginning to think it happens when the engine is hot - like when stuck in traffic or after making progress).

It's in for a service at the moment, so we'll see how is when it returns!

Had the same problem with my T350c.

The dealer checked most things including the cleaning of a sensor that monitors the flywheel (don't even know what a flywheel is )? Although they were still not convinced it would solve the problem.

Has not stalled since but still get the odd blip when stationery.

As said a good blast down the motorway seems to improve things.

Originally my dealer thought it may just need a tune up. The car was due for its 6000 service (Tappets were adjusted as well) but that didn't solve the problem.

Mine has 'hunted' on occassion but never to the point where it stalls, usually it ticks over at 700rpm dead and if it varies its only from 650 to 750. My dealer was also unconcerned and its not happened for ages now.

A couple of you guys have mentioned you are on tickover at 700/750rpm. I am set at 1,000 rpm which due to aforementioned probs does vary. Anyone know what the true setting should be?

mine went up from 500/600 to 700/800 RPM's
1000 seems relatively high for a Speed Six, don't you think?

Or does the engine stalls below 1000 rpm?

My stalling was below 5/600rpm. The dealer set it and recommended 1,000rpm. So I am there or there abouts.

Mine never stalls, and is set at 700 (when hot) though it tends to run 100-200rpm lower when cold.

I was told the recommended setting is 700rpm (and think I read it on here somewhere).

My Tuscan (ex Lady T) ticks over at 1000rpm, sometimes dipping to 900rpm but never hunts or varies outside this narrow range range, either hot or cold.
Mileage is now nearly 17K.
Reckon 900/1000rpm feels about right for the Speed 6 engine.
At 700rpm, reckon it would be rather lumpy?

Mine is running at 700rmp and occasionally when cold it will dip momentarily to 600rpm then imediatly come back to 7 and for the most part that’s fine but I am also getting this glitch which is almost like the engine will cut unless you give it a blip this especially happens at low speed like a T junction and if you don’t get it quite right the big ends knock.
The garage has been helpful I'm on my 4th ECU each time it’s getting a little better I am informed that when we get to 6K miles this problem will go unfortunately I still have 3K to go. Changing the ECU has each time improved it a little. But not cured the problem.
