Hi all,

Finally picked up another Eunos after a good few years without one. Always loved the simplicity and wanted a project I can keep long term.

Thought I’d start a thread to keep track of progress but also to get the advice of those more knowledgeable than myself.

Without going into detail, the history wasn’t as honest as it appeared so it needs more work than expected, starting with some strut tower welding which I’m hoping to get sorted soon.

Long term aim is to fully restore it but with some personal touches as I don’t plan on ever getting rid.

And the first bit of dreaded rust to get sorted.

R Limited is a nice base, what sort of plans do you have when you've tidied it up?

I've got a really bizarre relationship with these, I love how they can look when they're fettled a little bit, and I love them on paper. I've got pals who've had really really smart ones and have loved them. I bought a Eunos V Spec years ago and it was the shortest I've ever owned a car, I just couldn't get on with it at all and despite power not being everything I just found it far too slow really. I even dyno'd it as I thought it was horribly broken and it made bang on factory power haha.

Despite that, I still find myself looking at them frequently, and wondering about round 2.

I think in my head, a really nicely sorted flyin' miata build with an LS, manual 6 speed and some fairly simple understated cosmetic mods would make for a lovely little weekend car. One day maybe!

A full restoration long term but with a few of the more tasteful chrome bits, slider wider wheels, and a few interior improvements.

I agree re the power but I find it’s a nice engaging drive with keeping it smooth rather than relying on power (or lack of) too much. I have an M2 as well so this will be more for casual summer driving. Supercharging it eventually has crossed my mind though.

I’m biased but I’d definitely say give them another chance. Like you say, with a good few improvements it’ll be a great car, and probably still for significantly less than a lot of more modern alternatives. Will hopefully hold value a little better too.

Sounds great.

M2 and an MX5 is a cracking pair!

I'm after one of these after having one a few years ago that rusted into oblivion. The prices have certainly gone up!

Did you buy this privately or from one of the well known mx-5 specialists?

I'm trying to work out whether it's worth paying the premium for one from a specialist....

That’s why I decided to get in now. I paid a premium but note for it being an R. I would recommend a specialist though now I know this one is going to need quite a bit of work.

That was always the plan but probably not so soon 😅 some great videos from a couple of YouTubers highlighting the rust issues now.
