I have a 2018 Nissan Qashqai (I think it has direct TPMS). I don't like space saver spare wheels so have bought a full size wheel off eBay and as it has a good tyre on it so I want to fit it on the car and use an existing wheel as the spare.

However it occured to me that let's say I put this new spare wheel on the left front, will the TPMS unit in that wheel work with my car or will all sorts of hissy fits ensue as that TPMS unit is not somehow paired with my car?

Also what does resetting the TPMS from the settings on the dashboard do?

Many thanks.

AFAIK cars usually automatically recognise and sync with new TPMS, that's the case on mine anyway.

Experiences may vary.

It totally depends on the car.

On a Ford Mondeo, the system recognises the new sensor(s) - it takes a couple of journeys - but it just works
On a Jaguar XF (2015 or later) you need to get the system re-programmed to recognise the new sensor(s)

Thanks. Looking at the wheels on the Qashqai the valves look like ordinary disposable rubber ones so I think my assertion her car was direct tpms might be wrong.

We changed the wheel and oddly for the first few miles the tpms system reported an issue with a wheel that had not been touched. It then all sorted itself out.

I’m not clear why it thought there was an issue with a wheel that had not been touched initially.

Also the old wheel is now the spare in the boot. If it is direct tpms then I’m wondering if it’s reading the spare wheel instead of the nee wheel I bought.
