WRC Generations...
Discussion
Whilst I wait for F1 2022(or similar) to appear on Geforce Now, I thought I would give WRC Generations a go. The last 'proper' rally game I played was Dirt.
Amazed how good these games look now days, especially on a big screen.

Just a shame the game play is so realistic, forget perfecting the Scandinavian flick, I've perfected the 'Hit and roll' move!!!
Someone else please tell me this game is 'Hard'.......Asphalt 9 made rallying feel so easy

I've played WRC 8, 9 & 10 and really, really enjoyed the games as (without waxing too lyrical), they have some Rally 'Soul' about them.
They are of course very, very hard, IMHO harder than Dirt Rally 1 & 2 as the stages are longer. I decided pretty early on that they way to enjoy the game is not to pretend I am Sebastien Loeb but rather I am 'Middle Aged bloke from Norfolk' and turned the difficulty right down (I left assists off) and just enjoy it.
I concentrated hard on listening to the pace notes and driving to finish the stage even if it meant it feeling bloody slow at times.
By doing that things really clicked and although I am still thoroughly rubbish I can beat the AI when it is also set to 'Middle Aged bloke from Norfolk' level and have started edging it up.
Of course if I choose the Lancia 037 and Portugal then I become the embodiment of Marku Allen and go maximum attack with the very predictable results.
As you can probably guess Generations is high on my Christmas list.

This my 'moment' for the WCR, Carlos Sainz finishing not finishing the final stage on the Welsh rally....cannot begin to imagine the pain of been so close yet so far.......and for it happen in a Toyota of all cars!!As you can probably guess Generations is high on my Christmas list.
The content is massive on this game, also £17 on CDkeys for Steam code, so amazing value too, why wait till Xmas

Are they just porting Dirt 2.0 over though, most games these days are just very flash updates of something else?
I played most the Codemaster rally games right from Colin Mcrae, I know am older now, with slower relfexs, but this is the first WRC game I've played. It's on a different level to what Codemasters games interms of difficulty.Interesting, didn't know this was out.
I've played a few of the previous official WRC games, spent a lot of time this year on WRC 10. I do like it but seems that in each rally there's really only one actual stage, what you play is mostly just shorter sections of it in forward and reverse, then if you have the settings enabled for longer rallies you get one or two runs through the whole thing so it can get to feel very repetitive. Have they addressed that in this release?

I haven't liked a single rally game from this developer so I'm reluctant to fork out. None of them convinced me with the handling.
Cannot comment on handling or other WRC games. I've never driven a real car any where near 10/10th on real world roads, let alone what real rally driver do. But this game is damn hard (for me anyways). Had a chance to play it some more tonight, the difference between driving a 4WD car in Kenya is very very noticeably different from trying to guide a RWD 911 in snow down some alpine roads lined with rocks. The Monte Carlo stages really does remind me of the European mountain passes in real life...as in scary, no idea how rally drivers actually 'race' up/down these roads.
Pulling off a mini drift on a Welsh back road in a current WRC car felt much more at home
. Haven't got much 'spare' time to put into this game at present, but for a pick a play driving game plenty of options. Not a relaxing game to play though in any way, you literally have to focus all the time. No Codemaster 'rewind' setup here.

From watching vids for this any rally game where your driver can't fully twiddle his or her arms gets an automatic no from me.
I expect the EA Dirt, if it ever arrives, to be some sort of gouging outrage.
There's still yet to be a rally game that fully convinces me. The Dirts were nearly there but they seemed to be fairly uninterested in wheelspin and steering with the throttle, both of which are rather important.
