Any owners or past owners of these here? Im searching for hot hatches around the 250-300 bhp mark and these seem a bit more rarer and leftfield than your Focus STs etc.

Looking at the 3.2 V6 version...

Looks stunning and probably always will…

Even Prodrive couldn’t get it to perform anyway near a performance car…

Would probably still have one all said and done….

Always felt it was an ungainly ugly car.

I just finished watching Jack’s latest video on you tube ( Number 27 ) review of a Prodrve Brera S.
Worth a watch.

If you like the looks, style and rarity of the Brera then go for it.

On no objective measure are they a match for a good hot hatch, but people buy them and many Alfas for subjective and often intangible reasons (Ive owned several)

The FWD Prodrive has a premium but is FWD - the Q4 AWD suits the heavy engine and platform well. You'll find it superbly planted and swift but not rapid. Work the manual gear box and B-roads will be fun and AWD makes it a good year-round car

If you're over 6ft tall you're not going to fit in it.
The Alfa salesman was going to have the easiest sale ever till I test drove one. I would've had a permanently stiff neck

Yep, never got the fairy universal praise for its styling, great from the front but a big lard arse at the back.

If you look at it as more of a mini GT type car it does make a lot of sense. I came very close to buying one. My brother had a V6 for a while before swapping for a 147 GTA. I much rather have the Brera than something like a Focus ST or a Golf GTi. Its slower and heavier in the corners but feels more special day to day.

It’s a nice cruiser, feels it weight if you throw it around. They’re nice cars, much higher quality finish than the Fords, but nit as sharp.

When it was new its comparative lack of performance restricted interest and sales.
The passage of time has been kinder to the Brera than it’s been to its contemporaries. A couple of seconds a lap around the Bedford Autodrome or Dunsfold seem less important on a ten year old car, to me at least.
If you can find a good one and fit in it I doubt you’ll regret buying it.

It was expensive too. Well over £30k for the V6 model was not competitive enough.

Of note-the facelift in 2008 made the interior nicer and the seats much sportier / more stylish. Not super-common though as declining sales got even worse after the 08 financial crash.

The front wheel drive manual 210bhp 20V JTD (from 08) was actually the best of these.

Quite. The late 1750 TBi models had their fans.

The 210 bhp 2.4 JTDm was OK in the 159 but not sure it suited the Brera. It also managed to return petrol engine-levels of fuel economy!

What's the best engine combo then? Surely the JTD would make it heavy on the front end?

V6 is great, but not a patch on the Busso, think that is what let's it down for many. A reworked GM V6 just isn't as characterful. I'd personally go for the last of the 1750s, its a fair chunk lighter and actually a pretty decent motor.

Is it the same motor as the 4C? (I really ought to know this)

If so it’s quite tuneable.

The Busso would have been even more anaemic trying to power the Brera/159's weight. The issue is not the engine in these cars.
