What's the consensus on being be able to leave our pride and joys parked up in the future without fear of retribution from certain 'activists'? I.e. those that don't have the common sense to realise the owner could well be someone who does respect the environment, cycles to work etc and only uses the car occasionally. And that it actually works out to be greener than getting a new EV when the annual mileages are low. They might also judge you for driving for the sake of it not realising it's no different than driving to any destination for leisure activities. Both scenarios are nonessential.

I know it's a longshot when relying on people to use their commonsense but thought it would be interesting to see what you all think.

Appreciate there may be the tiniest bit of bias on this forum too and for science this should probably be posted on Mum's net, but then I'm also biased so meh.

For the sake of insurance premiums, I hope so.

Insurance is a good point, hadn't thought of that.

Tragic about those cars. Respraying all the panels can't have done the environment much good

In a relatively short period ICE vehicles will be curiosities, like traction engines currently are. The ICE replaced the horse in about 15 years. I can’t see that activists will be greatly interested in attacking old vehicles belonging to poor people.

As any existing car is more environmental than building and using a new one, I would think they might learn a bit of common sense. Suspect the performance ice car wouldn’t be a daily drive by then

Don’t we replace about 5% of the cars on the road per year? So even if we could only buy BEVs starting today, it would take around 20 years before all the ICE cars are gone.

As someone who drives about 12k miles a year, spread across 4 cars, I can’t see me dropping ICE any time soon.

Not saying I wouldn’t add an electric car to the fleet, the issue is just finding one either makes sense as our family car, or can be financially justified as a local runaround

There are still millions of horses. A hundred years later.

Super yachts and private planes (which pretty much shout "F* the planet, because I'm rich"), seem to still be fashionable with high profile types.....

I really don’t understand why we pander to these so called “activists” and why they seem to think they have a say in anything we say or do, when did we all become soft, there will be nothing left shortly all our cars will be gone and the only form of personnel transport we’ll have left will be our feet or at best a bicycle.

A very hard line has to be taken with the agendas being pushed all this woke and transgender nonsense, climate crisis, just stop oil etc etc...where the hell did all this come from, we need to find out who is funding this and put a stop to it.

This place becomes more and more like the Daily Mail with each passing day.

I’d say that it’s the idiotic driving and parking by a minority of performance car drivers that is the issue rather than the cars themselves.

And you it seems to be SUV’s bearing the brunt rather than performance cars, which - as everybody knows - SUVs are not. biggrinsmashyesgetmecoat

I don't think it will really happen. ICE cars will be around for decades, & the average activist will never be informed about cars or which ones are performance orientated.

As the divide between the have's & have not's gets ever greater, I think ostentatious displays of wealth (whether that be a shiny Ferrari or shiny gates on a detached house) will become a much bigger target
