Hi all

Just about to have a new hood fitted as the stitching around the rear screen is shot
It is the original hood at 22 years.
I was looking at all of the seals and thinking the windscreen seal is starting to look a bit tatty.
At looking at spares etc you can buy the upper and lower windscreen seals.
Are they just a push fit or does it affect the glass seal to the body.
I did lift a little of the seal and the actual glass looks bonded to the body and the rubber seal just pushes on.
Wanted to make sure before lifting the original

Thanks
Trevor

Don't think of it as a seal it is just a trim.
When the screen is bonded in it just bonds to the body.
The trim is a sort of T section. The leg of the T is fitted (with mastic/PU sealer) into the gap between glass edge and body and is just there so you don't see the edge of the glass.

The top, goalpost trim is a push on (and glue) fit. It will need to be mitered at the bottom to meet the lower trim.

Removing the old one will also require a lot of making good to allow fitting of the new trim. It will be - should be - cured PUR will will need to be cut back to a smooth finish to allow the new rubber to fit. Then you glue it in (and that is a totally separate work instruction which involves a box of disposable gloves).

I would think very carefully about the lower trim.

Thanks Glassman for the info

It was the top one I had in mind. In your text you mention PUR and I do not know what that stands for. Is it the old sealant/ Glue

What would be the best to use for the new one if I go down that road.

Is the seal/ rubber an Ok fit that is supplied as I have read that it doesn't go round the corners very well but that was in an old post.

Just for your info you did a little bit of work on my Chimaera many moons ago when we met at a Mile End body shop that you used to frequent.

Are you still in the windscreen businesssmile

Thanks Again

Decided now after a couple of comments and some research that changing the windscreen rubber Could be a lot of trouble. New ones don’t fit and probably best to keep the old ones if poss.
So I have bought some 303 rubber conditioner. I will then use Sikaflex to seal and stick down the areas where the windscreen seal have lifted.
After an initial application of 303 the seal looks substantially better.
I will apply another coat when the weather dries up a bit.
The bonus being that I will have some 303 left over for the rest of the Rubber seals on the TVR and my XK .
303 bought off Ebay for £11.99

Last resort I can always change the seal anyway if I don’t like the result.
New black hood ordered off Allhoods of Romford and will be fitted next week by a very good local trimmer.
Interestingly both the hood manufacturer and the trimmer both stated that do not use any weatherproofing to the hood , they both said it would be ruined.
Previously I always used Autoglym Cabriolet
