Is there any way of finding out more info about what the specification of the 350 SEs are and how similar were they?. There seems to be little information out there about them other than a couple of references saying they were built in 1984...

For instance did mine leave the factory with the SEAC spoiler on or was it a later addition?

In thought the run of 25 cars were built in 89/90, using a 350 shell (i.e. no bonnet vents, wide arches, spoilers as fitted to the 400/450) and what was essentially the V8S engine - 3.9l, 240 bhp, 270ft/lbs, with 350 size but different pattern wheels.

Mine was registered in May 1990, not sure of build date. It appears to be a standard 350 with the addition of the different wheels and the bigger engine. It only has 2 small 350SE badges on the wings, there are no markings at all on the back.It has not had any paintwork since it was 2 yrs old (if ever)and still has original number plates so I presume it was built unbadged. I have no idea what 'number' of the 25 it is but it would be interesting to know how many of the 25 still surviving. The only other one I know of is DJC who is restoring his.

Mine is number 1 in Monza red with a magnolia/red interior. Chassis built in 1989, registered 1990.

It has a limited edition badge with the number 1 on each side and the back.

It has a 350 SE badge on the back, on each side under the door and on the right of front under spoiler.

Numbers 9 and 10 were at the BBWF in a very similar red.

The 3 different spoilers at the BBWF:

My wedge also has a LSD - did all the 350 SEs have these?

I used to own no 5 - hence the name! Same red paint job and same rear spoiler as no 10. No 6 was metallic ruby red in colour and no 4 was blue.
TVR Engineering put adverts in some 1990 sprint magazines. All were meant to have had the hotwire 3.9l 240bhp V8, but in reality I think it varied from car to car.

We used to own No 10. The car was an excellent package let down by v. poor brakes. Something TVR forgot to change when giving the 350 a 25% hike in power.
It was the first area of expenditure when we owned it.

I so agree, ref. brakes.
The brakes on my 390 are its aquilles heel, and to be honest, lousy.
Even the 280's are better (also vented).

When you're driving a vehicle with Porsche-like performance, you expect some pretty high g's when applying the anchors, not something more like a Morris 1000.

I'm going to have 'proper' brakes fitted pretty soon.

Hi there,I am the owner of No 10.
The front brakes fitted to the front of our wedge are bremsport and ther still available from trans auto sport (TAS).
Nice to see other 350SE owners at BBWF.
I have a news release from TVR wich says.
"TVR Engineering Ltd are to produce a limited run of 25 specially prepared 350's.
Called the 350SE, only 25 cars are to be built and shall be the last 350 models to leave the factory. They shall comemorate the last seven years of production during which time over one thousand 350's have been manufactured.
All 350SE's will feature a 240bhp,270ft.lb alloy V8 engine and polished multi spoke alloy wheels. Each car will be uniquely numbered for future recognition.with a retail price of only £21,000.00,they are expected to sell to eager collectors and speculators.
Hope this shines some light on the subject.
Nice photo by the way of the 350SE's
Ive Just rebuilt the diff on ours and they are a power lock diff.
Ive done several bits over last year to car, silicone hoses, fuel hoses, rebuilt and bushed rear end,any thing you might have a queary on,or just service part No's drop me a message, allways willing to help fellow wedges.
Hope to see some of you at BNG YORK.
P.S. apparentley they never built a No.13(spooky).

Hi - was nice to meet you at the BBWF. Having owned the wedge for a week I hadn't expected there to see 2 other 350 SEs there.

There are quite a few photos of our cars here: http://photobucket.com/albums/a280/bbwf/?start=all

Just let me know if you want full size versions of any of them.

My favourite is:

Did all the SEs have 3.9 litre engines? The wedge book implies otherwise. If the 390 SE has a 275bhp engine why does the 350 SE only have 240bhp? According to www.pistonheads.co.uk/tvr/wedges/se.htm the 350 SE has 280 bhp

If number 13 wasn't built is there a number 26 or only 24?

It was a pleasure to park one of the earliest wedges next to the SEACS. The early FHC had such a futuristic look to the bodyline.

Based on the one race-tuned 3.9L that Andy Rouse produced for them, TVR claimed 275 bhp.
That engine (I gather) ran slipper pistons and a wild cam etc and was just about undriveable on the road, it used almost as much oil as fuel etc etc.
The production 3.9 actually had more like 220-240 bhp.
By the time the 350SE appeared I think they'd been rumbled and had to quote a more realistic figure.
The 3.9 (or 4L, if you like) cars that I've driven all tend to be much the same with slight variations in the way the power is delivered.
Compared to a 3.5L my car seems to need more revs to make it pull, where the 3.5 has a smoother torque curve from lower rpm. However other 390SEs seem to pick up lower down than mine so quite which variable is different on my car eludes me...
Part of the problem after all these years is that people have changes cams, exhausts, injection components... even the petrol is different now!

I wasn't aware that any SEs had a different engine to each other, I certainly haven't seen one, but being TVR...
Even stranger for bhp the 400 was quoted at 268bhp but see Ian's reply.

Simply a mis-print. 240bhp. Let Ted know.

Think only way to settle bhp thing is to put it on the rolling road.
If you do go down this path, use a reputable company as some don't keep there rollers properly calibrated and are just into taking £100 of the saxo and peugeot boys everytime they get paid and have just purchased a new shiny bit that will gaurantee to make there car go just like the cars in The Fast And The Furious.
I have seen portable rolling roads at shows, they did not have any fans blowing cold air at cars as they were thrashing the balls out of it! please don't let these RETARDS near it.
If everytime you get in and drive your wedge and it puts a smile on your face it has enough BHP.
Thanks cdt for offer of photos, may have to do you some swappsies(how do you like the car anyway?glad you purchased it?)
Don't know about No.26 or if the No13 thing is true?
could just be hearsay(wer'e they a pop band at some point?)
I personally have seen specifications for 3.9 engine on Autodata and Bosch ESI tronic data stating 275-285bhp?
Again I think rolling road is the only true way.
Big hello to daftlad,at last we meet.(ABSOLUTELY LOVING THE CAR).

Oh, non-sense; this isn't about how much bhp any particular car really has, just TVRs claimed figures at launch which at least allow some comparative power levels between cars to be known.

FWIW most people believe that power range on a rolling road (assuming it to be an estimated at the flywheel figure) to be about right for the 500s which are a fairly well tuned lump.

And here is probably the earliest roadworthy Wedge (manufactured 1980 - chassis 10, but not regd til 1983).

Being picked up tomorrow afternoon by her new owner

She still looks pretty, don't you think ?

IMHO the door mirrors look a bit odd. What a fantastic motor though; I always think that for that model the rear 3/4 view is the best one.
