Levels of service seems very variable and so that may be of importance to you. Are you the same as me, hating sloppy service which wastes my time, especially poor automated phone systems. After all, that is often the very first (maybe last) contact made with a business.
SSE - The retail supply business has been sold to another utility supplier (name on the internet), with the right to continue using the SSE name (think for a specific period). Using the original name seems to be confusing customers and there are indications that the acquiring firm might be overwhelmed with the greatly increased number of customers.
Shell - Have seen several published reports of customers with large credit balances, who have asked for some of their money to be returned, but say they have been ignored. Direct debits being greatly increased, sometimes far beyond usage.
Octopus - Appear to have good online systems. Easy to use and when a payment amount is reduced by a customer online, it seems to be immediately accepted (perhaps if the account is in credit).
Don't think they are looking for customers at present, online shows nothing, but someone told me recently that a telephone application might be successful.
That is all I know. Hope it might be helpful to you.

Thanks, Jon, for the information.
I am with Eon and not sure if I'm on the best deal.
realistically isn't the energy price guarantee for your region (which is public information for each company) likely to be the best deal?I am with Eon and not sure if I'm on the best deal.
How much are your standing charges and /unit costs?
