Ive had a week off and I must say I missed you all...

......Everything was just peachy until I popped into Nottingham for the afternoon.....

.....I had parked just opposite StarbucksIllegally, but safely) up a side street....I returned to find the wing mirror all fu@@ed up!!.... Fortunately the girlfriend was in the car at the time and took his registration number..
She told me the guy had just laughed as he scrapped by my Griff and then drove off....

.......I wasn’t a happy bunny and nipped into the Police station in West Bridgeford on the way back (after much inciting by the GFriend)....the Police were more than helpful and after giving my details the police officer contacted the driver...who was angry that the police had got involved and said my girlfriend has given him the thumbs up as he scrapped on by...hummm...

...The police officer said that it wouldn’t be worth pressing charges, but that I should claim off his insurance (hes having to come from afar to hand in his details)...and leave it at that..

..Now the question is....was I wrong to “dob” him in…?
(I would have been fine if he had stopped to apologise...but laughing and driving off really boiled me!)

I think you did the right thing. As you say, you wouldn't have bothered if he'd stopped to apologise. Might stop him doing the same thing - or worse - to someone else.

Sorry to hear about the mishap, most of us in Notts are a friendly bunch Can't picture where Starbucks is though, was it in the centre of town? With all the tram work going on I avoid the centre at all costs, the oneway system changes daily and different roads are closed every other day
Hope you get it all sorted

No way. On principle this type of Tw@t should be sorted out. Any decent driver would have stopped and said "sorry mate, let's sort this without the insurance companies knowing about it".

Now he'll lose his no claims, and all 'cos he was being a tw@t.

Fair play to you for dobbing him in. This type of thing really annoys me.

Know where you mean now I actually saw some numpty behaviour there on Saturday as I was walking through town, someone was parking on the end of the row of parked cars just around the corner, and the numpty behind had followed them, even though they wanted to go straight down the street, then the next car behind was too close to let him reverse until the whole street was blocked

To right you should have dobbed him in.

Not stopping at an RTA. Not swapping insurance details after an RTA. Both of which are illegal.

The only reason the police don't want to press charges are the cost of repair and no one was hurt. If the car had been more seriously damaged or someone hurt then he would have had the book thrown at him.

It's tossers like this that make our insurance go up. Cost us money and inconvenience. For no reason other than you have worked hard to get a nice car.

I would like to know how he thinks your GF giving him the thumbs up (which I doubt) actually gave him the right to damage your property.

....She apparently mimed "Your Scratching the fuc@@ng car!!"....and I think my anger all boils down to him laughing...

......I should be getting his insurance details soon..
is it really worth me claiming through his insurance...
....it’s just that he's been shook up by the police and im not really after his blood or his no claims?..( ps. im not a wimp...)

(yeah you were right on the location raceboy...)

Isn't Nottingham the fourth most violent place in England?
I agree - shop him. Show some respect. But if you were illegally parked then don't get the police too involved!

We're working on getting into the medals
Most of the violence here in Notting-gun, is drug dealer on drug dealer so not really too much to worry about unless you carear path leads that way

Its a sad sad day when we have to go into Starbucks for a coffee, and leave the girlfriend behind!!

I'd give him the option to pay for the damage, plus a slight increase for a small front end spray (we all need one of those!). It will save you involving your insurance, which never helps, and he can make amends.

I really don't understand, D1bble, why you're so worried about reporting him. He committed a felony in not stopping/reporting etc., and would have been quite happy to get away scot-free. This is not good, social behaviour, and he deserves to be punished. What's your problem with it? Would you have felt better forking out £200 for a new mirror? I certainly wouldn't. Ignorant prats like him need sorting out - I had the same thing happen to my Chimaera wing mirror - returned to it, and someone had either prushed past it or deliberately broken it, whilst in a car park. I was furious!! Get a nice new mirror, repainted cowling, and let his insurance pay. That'll teach him to jerk you off!!
