48 or 55 inch TV for new gaming setup ?
Discussion
Hi,
New to gaming and about to setup first gaming room for my son (and me !), really treating ourselves and going for a Microsoft Xbox series X and a OLED TV.
Dilemma is what size TV, I have done loads of reading and confused myself totally, we will be sitting 2m 15cm / 7feet from the TV.
Not sure whether to go for a 48" or 55" TV, think initially be playing Minecraft, Fortnite, FIFA and Forza, moving on later to the shooting sort of games. I was concerned that be loads of head movement to take everything in if the action is all over the screen on the bigger 55inch. Like to be playing some older games like Lego marvel which won't be quite so high res.
Have read that at 4k that distance is fine but articles are mainly centred on watching TV rather than gaming, kids will also use that room for watching TV but have small TV in there with no problems at moment and main focus on choice is the best for gaming.
Be great to get peoples thoughts, any advice greatly appreciated.
Lawrence

I’d go smaller personally.
Despite your name !Bit of a mixed bag so far, all good input, the space where is going will only fit max 55inch so that would be the tops, the headache/head movement side does concern me - 55 be fine for tv/films but never having had a console not sure how will be for gaming, thanks for responses so far

We've got an Xbox on a 65" and it's never seemed too big. The 48" will seem small before you know it. I bet the 55" isn't even than much more expensive.
Girlfriend and I both have a 55" LG OLED (a B9 and a BX I think, weren't quite bought at the same time) for gaming, and both sit at most 6ft from the screen. No problem at all with headaches or head movement, 55" really isn't 'that' big at that distance, you're certainly not turning your head to see the screen.
I can't see a reason to go under 55 unless you're planning on using it as a desktop monitor, at that point I can see 55 would be a bit inconvenient

We have an LG55 C1, which is a year old. It’s had at least 7-800 gaming hours on it and thousands of hours of media, it’s been absolutely fine. I can’t remember what we paid for it but we took out the extended 5 year warranty for £140 with John Lewis that covers anything that could feasibly happen to it. It’s a great set.

They seem to get great reviews, can I ask how far you sit away from it ? That would be really useful,Loz
