The i7 is so pig-ugly in the real world
Discussion
Saw four of these pretty much one after the other on the road today - some sort of press junket I would have thought - and, oh my god they are so fricking ugly in the real world.
Terrifyingly so - press pictures flatter to deceive - they are easily the worst-looking thing I have ever seen coming towards me on the other side of the road.
What is wrong with BMW?

Let's face it, the likes of you and me are a dying breed. There are 8 billion people we share the planet with, most of whom live in emerging markets.
BMW have no doubt done their homework and found that there is a lucrative market for the styling they are pursuing.
What I don't understand why that is so difficult to comprehend, these 'jaw-drop' BMW posts are getting a bit tedious now.

Worse in real life than in pics? How is that even possible Terrifyingly so - press pictures flatter to deceive - they are easily the worst-looking thing I have ever seen coming towards me on the other side of the road.

Nothing is wrong with BMW. I took a test drive in an IX the other day and I did really struggle to accept the look of the thing tbh...
But BMW will most certainly have done more research and made more sense of global appeal and the importance of standing out than we can do as the PH collective. It's not for no reason that despite being tiny compared to the top 3 car manufacturing conglomerates, BMW stand strong and distinct and secure in the marketplace.
The one thing a BMW can never afford to do is look too much like anything comparable from it's bigger competitors. What we have here is a repeat of the Bangle years when it all went a bit weird for UK tastes, but it's important to keep the brand and look fresh, dynamic and distinct (even if a bit minging..), because the second BMW's start to look like Mercedes', BMW lose.
Aside form the looks, the i7 appears to be a very good luxury EV. If you buy one don't worry, you'll be sat on the inside of it looking at the prettier rival cars around you - it's the drivers of those cars that are stuck looking at the beemer

They're for yanks and the Chinese.
^ThisActually, I believe its more for the Chinese market than the US one, but the point still stands. Doesnt have to appeal to the European tastes.

As if the manufacturer that spends a billion+ on research and marketing each year is 'wrong' to have launched a car that happens not to appeal to a few posters in a tiny country.
If it works in the major emerging markets, then it works. End of.
Anyone with a contrary view is demonstrating that they could never be open minded enough to be involved in a multinational company at a decision making level - In other words, they're identifying as a person with lesser ability than those they criticise.

Wait until you see one - assuming they do actually sell any in the UK.
It’s the UK dealer training event happening at milbrook and the surrounding areas. They are focusing on 7 series, ix1 and 3 series lci (facelift)
The i7 is an amazing car, and yes it’s for the Asian, Middle East and US markets. But having said that the order bank for the UK is full for launch and up to end of Q2. So quite a few people like it here. That’s retail by the way and does not include corporate, hotels, hire etc etc

Given the competition I'd take one over either a boring looking Model S or blobby Merecedes EQS personally. Would have to be in black and M-Sport trim though.

They look very different, ie very much worse, if you don’t stump for the M-Sport package. Black and chrome grill surround just emphasises the gopping ugliness. Richard-D said:
Front bumper/grille aside I don't mind the rest of it. It looks a bit 'Chrysler 300c' in the above picture but that wasn't a bad looking thing. Just a shame about the front as I wouldn't want that parked on my drive.
I think it's rather imposing, and at least it isn't bland/generic..I get they were going for low drag and long range but does it have to be quite so meh?
