Slighty tricky one:

Waaaaay back in 1998 I wrote a VB5 app with an Access 2 backend. Its been running ever since, right up till last Friday. Got a call yesterday and I have a minor problem:

No copy of Microsoft Access 2 !!

Anyone have a copy that I can get FTP access to or a shareware/freeware equivalent?

(Current versions of Access can read Access 2 databases but want to convert it if you wish to modify anything)

Cheers

How big's the mdb file? Pretty sure there's a 1Gb limit that could stop it working after 7 years!

Problem solved. Sort of....

Using a combination of Access 2000 and VB5.0 Data Query I have managed to manipulate the Access back-end without coverting/corrupting the data.

The main table contained 250,000 records and the .mdb was about 210MB in size. Still working fine however.

I wrote this in my freelance contractor days - it is a huge booking and despatch piece of software specifically designed for the Taxi industry. It runs in about half a dozen firms and needs to work 24 hours a day 7 days a week and be idiot proof. Its only the 2nd time in 7 years that I've needed to tinker with it.

Perhaps its time for version 2.0

Undoubtedly. That version of the Access DB is almost certainly "off support" by Microsoft. Cue letters to all your clients warning them about how dire it would be if the thing went tits up and how they can get back on to a fully supported by Microsoft version for only ££££££.

Nice.

You might want to consider porting the thing to MSDE / SQLServer. Perhaps even support a web-based booking service for customers etc etc. All ways to add some value and get people paying for the upgrade...

Certainly is! And has been for several years. In fact, it was probably borderline back in '98...
