I could probably Google all this but thought I'd ask on here.
My wife has lusted after a Macan for ages, so it looks like I'll be biting the bullet soonish and trading in her Merc GLC. Price wise I'm looking at a 2020 model probably, and it must be petrol with a pano roof.
So, my understanding is basic Macan, Macan S (basic Macan with more bits and bobs), Macan GTS (more bits and bobs and loads more power) and Macan Turbo (all the bits and bobs and mental power). These days I think the GTS is the Turbo and the Turbo is no more but back in 2020, have I got it right?
I'm thinking Macan S. It'll be a huge leap in performance over her 2.2 diesel GLC and she's more into bits and bobs than speed. Any horror stories re reliability etc or are they pretty bombproof? Any other useful info I should know?

Your model history is pretty much correct.
All models seem to be pretty reliable as far as I'm aware but some of the common issues are:
Transfer box - These seem to fail at random ages/milages. Some people have had more than one replaced. I've had 3 Macans since 2014 and never had a problem. My understanding is Porsche have brought out updated versions to rectify the issue and applied a 7 year warranty retrospectively so you shouldn't need to worry about it.
3.0 Oil Leak - I've heard a couple of people report a leak from and oil seal the front of the 3.0 engine but again seems a bit random and not common as far as I know. Covered under warranty if you have one. The later 2.9 Audi sourced unit doesn't have this issue.
Leaking Sunroof - The drain tubes at the front and back of the sunroof have a tendency to get blocked which results in water collecting in the boot and/or front footwells. It's a fairly simple job to clean these out (videos on YT) and I've never had any issues with mine.
They are quite brilliant cars to own and drive and I can't think of anything else that could replace our current GTS.

We owned a early Macan D and two Macan GTS cars. Brilliant cars for the money, the Gts is a great all round package. Sounds great to.
The only down side is the Gts cars drank the fuel, 21mpg driven gently around town was the best I could ever get, little better on a run.
I’m tall, never felt cramped in it.

The leaking pano issue isn’t just confined to the blocked drain issue. Some also suffer from problems with the fitting of the roof cassette which in turn can lead to water in the driver and pax footwells, leaks down the A pillars and water in the battery compartment in the boot. In my case, a 2017 GTS, I hit the jackpot and suffered with all of these leaks which resulted in me selling the car as it came out of the warranty period. Great car but I wouldn’t risk another pan roof……. In fact am looking for another currently without the roof option…..
I live in wales with my macan gts with a pano roof . . . We have more than our fair share of rain but never had a problem.
The gts is awesome - my second macan. Fantastic cars in my opinion, my only gripe with the gts is that the seats are sports seats with side bolsters and I find them a bit of a pain for sliding in and out of the seat. When I pick up my aged mum I take my Volvo as she finds the seats hard to get on ! The engine and performance is superb

I got a 2016 3.0 S in dubai quite recently. When my 981 in the U.K. was at the OPC I was given a new Macan for a few days. It was superb so put it on the radar for my move.
I’m very pleased with it. I took it to a specialist and have them do a bit of a blank cheque once-over.
It needed a tensioner & seal, a couple of hoses, a couple of arms & bushes, valve cover gasket seal, crank seal and engine mount. I also had them change the plugs, oil & filter.
He basically said most of those things were pretty common on this age of Macan. None of them especially urgent, but sooner the better, of course.
It wasn’t a particularly cheap day out, but it’s mechanically now perfect. It really is an excellent thing. Plenty of boot, decent back seats, comfy, quick, handles like no car of it’s dimensions should. Big enough for domestic duties but small enough to throw around, and also to squirt around in city traffic - I’m in a fairly congested part of the city..

The purchase was really to test the water for a couple of years and if I gel the way I think I already have, buy a much younger one - perhaps 2 years old. Today they’re more than a new one here, but hopefully that will have petered out by the time I’m looking.
