International Men's Day November 19th 2022
Discussion
Today's a day that doesn't get enough recognition in the UK:

As well as being a day of celebration, International Men’s Day is also a day to highlight the male suicide crisis.
Society's expectations and traditional gender stereotypes of men being strong and showing no “weakness” can be extremely damaging and potentially play a huge role in why men are more likely to stay silent and bottle up their emotions.
The narrative is changing but sadly not enough. According to data taken from the latest UK census, around three-quarters of registered suicide deaths in 2021 were males (4,129 deaths; 74.0%) which follows a consistent trend back to the mid-1990s.
If you or somebody you know is struggling Mentell provides free circles for men aged 18+ to talk (or just listen) in a safe and confidential space: https://www.mentell.org.uk

Why do we need these ‘days’? All seems a bit stupid to me. Apart from national fish n chips day which falls on first Friday in June. Now that’s a day for my calendar
'These days' are all about raising awareness but if they seem a bit stupid to you, that's OK. Enjoy your fish 'n' chips next June 2nd.

I was talking about this to a friend the other day. Literally nobody gives a s
t. I've had several friends die in male dominated industries, as well as losing folks to male specific cancer and suicide. I'm all over women's rights, and spent years mentoring and tutoring young women and girls in leadership, confidence building etc but it seems to be a one way road these days. Sadly I can't see things changing.

Its a cause I've got quite involved in a few times, not just growing a tash and donating a few quid.
Those moaning that international mens day isn't very high profile, what did you do on the day to help raise awareness?

Without wanting to be adversarial, £65M is a drop in the ocean compared to the total raised by race for life etc, and in all honesty, donating a couple of quid to a bloke with a silly moustache is often tokenistic without recognising the motives behind it. Personally, I support a few guys all year round, emotionally and financially as much as I can. Your post reminds me that I think there's a PH tache thread somewhere, so I'll quietly leave that point....
