I've always had an issue with thick socks making a st load of mess when I remove them. The fluff sticks to your feet and goes all over the floor/bed/sofa. Has anyone found any that don't do this?

British forces Coolmax “Warm weather” (they’re not, they’re thick and really all-seasons) Combat Socks. Ebay search will find you pairs around £6.

Bridgedale. They're my go-to for walking / mountain stuff and for cold nights. Wearing a pair as I type.

Another vote for Bridgedale - I favour the Woolfusion Trekker myself.

Darn Tough have proven to be utterly mediocre for me.

They developed humungous holes at the heel within six months, plus they moult more than any other sock I've ever experienced.

Could be a knock off of course, but they came from a listed supplier.

I've had nasty cheapo socks that are still going years later. Darn Toughs have been the shortest lived socks by a country mile.

Curious. Just checked; my Darn Tough socks were bought in 2017. No moulting, wearing fine. All are 'Hiker Micro crew cushion'.

Same. Some of mine are 7 years now and no issues. Easily the best socks I’ve ever had.

Surprised at this. My feet are noted sock destroyers. I seem to have kevlar toenails and heels which have sometimes poked a hole in a new sock in one day of walking.

Darn Tough are defintely the PH choice at upwards of £16 a pair but mine are holding out very well.

Another shout for Bridgedal, Midweight Merino Comfort, great for hillwalking, never had blisters or cold feet. An they don't moult.

What socks do you buy? I've always seen a correlation between cheap crap = fluff, more expensive stuff = no fluff (or at least nothing beyond the first couple of washes).

Any idea what Bridgedale call these now? They seem to change the names / ranges every 2 months! Price seems to have jumped a lot and colour options reduced as well looking on their site.

This thread prompted me to order more from Amazon last night - they were on special last night and are currently 8% off 2 or more:

Green/brown - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006HY455E/
Gunmetal - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006HY45R2/

ETA: I think all of the pairs I've ordered in the past are still in use, first ordered Nov 2013 !

Ideal for over-confident Walts… “Put your knife away son, I have a particular set of skills. And I’m wearing my combat socks”

Yet another vote for Bridgedale, when I did my ML and then high atlas and base camp Everest (many many many years ago now) they were the ones consistently recommended by those way more qualified and experienced than me and they certainly were excellent, held up well and lasted for what felt like forever too!
