On my 3rd Smiths
Discussion
As with a lot of these companies, the old stuff and the new are not the same.
Info on the original Smiths is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smiths_Group
Timefactors who make modern Smiths watches is run by Eddie Platts. I've no idea how or when he acquired rights to use the Smiths name.
That's not to say there is anything wrong with either the old or the new Smiths. I've seen a couple of Timefactors Smiths (including Barchettaman's PRS40) and they're cracking things.

The black everest 36mm is all the watch I'd ever need and like the commander too.
Had ordered the everest but it was cancelled by the transaction processing company due to Smiths taking so long to process it. Ever since I've not been able to complete the order quick enough before the limit is reached when the shop is open.
For that reason I've given up and dithering over a GS 36mm quartz instead.

Have you thought about eBay? Had ordered the everest but it was cancelled by the transaction processing company due to Smiths taking so long to process it. Ever since I've not been able to complete the order quick enough before the limit is reached when the shop is open.

I've had my Grandfather's Smiths deluxe British Rail long service watch repaired and serviced. I've worn it a few times now it hasn't seen the light of day for the thick end of 40 yrs. I still can't work out who pulled the fast one, they are badged deluxe but have the astral movement. Either Smiths didn't tell BR or BR instructed Smiths to downgrade the movement to save money!
It's tiny by today's standards but it will get passed to my son in due course.
There's often a few on ebay all engraved and that makes me a bit sad as that is someone's family history.

The gold one in my photo above was the one my dad got for his service with British Rail. It will get passed on at some point too It's tiny by today's standards but it will get passed to my son in due course.
