Norwich Union quoted £300 :yikes:

I made a second call to Axa and got a quote for £123 (which was £215 with the
a) accidental damage in the home,
b) coverage for laptops/cameras when on the move

Just curious what everyone else is paying, and... can anyone recommend the name of one more broker who can search a database of 30 insurers, and give me the best price of the lot. Any recommendations? Thankin ye in advance ;)

...try a broker as well, they have access to many policies available to the public. I am paying £190 a year, plus 60 credits for emergency call out cover.
If there is a flood / gas or power failure they will send a tradesman within a couple of hours to sort it, as well as pay the damage for the broken carpet afterwards..

Has anyone got broker names/numbers? If not, I guess its yellow pages time?

Always remember though that cheapest isn't necessarily best.

You've really no idea whether insurers are any good until you try and make a claim.
The best way to keep premiums down whilst still turning decent profits is of course to refuse as many claims as possible

Why is it that people think nothing of paying four figure sums to insure a car worth a few grand, yet jib if the cost of insuring their £250,000 house approaches £500 ?

It'd be interesting to hear what experiences people have had with different insurers in Boscastle for instance. That'd perhaps give one some better insight as to whether or not you get what you pay for.

The thing is that most people's experience of insurance companies is negative when they need to make a calim, so they view them all as bad, and hence might as well go with the cheapest...

Separate home and contents - home is about £300 per annum and contents £200-300
