435d to Corolla hybrid- am I being daft?

Hello.
I bought a 435d GC a few months ago, and whilst quick and reasonably comfortable, I am worried about the bork potential of an out of warranty bmw diesel, (car is a 19 plate, 3.5 years old- maybe a bit of an impulse purchase)
I’ve been to test drive a ‘21 2.0 Corolla hybrid GR sport in estate guise, nice car. Feels more comfortable and the hybrid engine is more refined and overall mpg is likely to be better. 20-30k a year, large % motorway use. Pretty much a straight swap in terms of purchase price- Toyota is £500 more
My intention was to keep the beemer for a few years and run it to 150k ish. Other factors include significantly cheaper insurance for the Toyota and no luxury car tax. But I lose the ‘fun’ of the 4.5 sec 0-60- if you can call it that.
Help me decide!

I have a 20 plate Corolla, GR spec
It's a great car if you can live with the CVT gearbox, we can and it's not an issue but I know some people struggle with it.
Motorway use - expect circa 50mpg, tank is relatively small (range of about 450 miles)
Warranty - covered to 10 years with a Toyota service every 12 months (my dealers service department have been excellent so far, much better than VW & BMW)
Doesn't have the same level of interior quality as something like a BM, but you get the feeling it'll run forever..

We had a Corolla hybrid (estate) as a courtesy car, I drove for 50 miles around the M25 ~90 minutes on my regular commute.the hybrid engine is more refined
It was wonderfully comfortable and showed a fair bit over 60MPG.
I can't however say the engine was refined, and the way it kicks in from electric is downright nasty.
I had a 330d and my misses has an Auris Hybrid (Corolla is an improvement admittedly) and the difference in interior quality is noticeable and the Toyota is literally an A to B car.
Personally, if you are into cars enough to be on here I'd say you may struggle with the change. To the average motorist the hybrid Toyotas are superb means of transport.

Yep, agree with that. The Toyota is a white goods car, nothing more really. I should probably say it’s purely for me to get to work and back (I am a sales rep so multiple points across the uk) family duties, and to occasionally lob an mtb in the back. Maybe that’s why I feel like the bmw is a bit of a waste because it’s purely used for ‘white goods’ style motoring…

What's the benefit of switching from a diesel to a petrol hybrid if you're going to be driving on the motorway most of the time? That's the worst scenario for a hybrid. hmmm as a purely financial decision to save potential bork factor then Corolla might make sense to Joe Bloggs. However, if you're into cars and I suspect you are I would consider either a 3rd party warranty or just put some money aside every month for repairs which should give you peace of mind.
Also use the 335d as intended - not too many short trips and make sure you do the long trips it needs. Also do annual servicing, not sure if they are every other year but new oil annually will keep it running cleaner over long term ownership.

I would keep the 435d, the Corolla is going to be boring fairly quickly. It would for me anyway.

You can also look at extended warranty, think they are about £600 assuming your car is <50k miles. Well worth it for peace of mind, the comprehensive BMW warranty is worth having if you are concerned about bills.

I switch from a 430d GC to a IS300h as I do A419 to A420 Watchfield to GloucestershireIS300h didnt last long, sold it after a year, i got high 40s in my IS300h, which I got the same in my 430d GC
IS300h interior is much nicer, quieter, more comfortable than the 430d but the CVT and lack of mpg improvement are the main reason I sold it so soon
You have made the right choice. The Toyota may make more since on a purely financial basis(maybe), you would hate it going from a 435D to a Corolla Hybrid though, inimahine it would be throughly miserable.

definitely the right choice Mr Spanky. Wait until your 435d has 150K and is at least 10 years old, then worry about borkage that may not happen.
annual oil change or every 10K and a proper gearbox service around 80 or 100K should help ensure longevity.
I like the new corollas as well, but I reckon the novelty would wear off quickly and white goods motoring would result in looking for another change within 6 months....
