My car touched the rearview mirror of the white car on the left , but the other white car driver removed the cover of the right rearview mirror, claiming that I damaged it, but judging from the video (15th-40th seconds), after touching it, his rearview mirror was not broken. The white cover is clearly still there. Later, when he got out of the car to check his car with me, I found that his left rearview mirror also had no cover. I felt that his right rearview mirror was originally broken with cover removable, and then he used this opportunity to ask me to replace it with a new one. At present, he wrote down my license plate number and said it was private, but I think that although I touched his right rearview mirror, no actual damage was materialized, because his right rearview mirror was originally broken. He said to send me invoice to replace his right rear car mirror. Do I need to pay or what should i do please?

I'd probably go through insurance if not happy. In not expert but it looks 50/50 to me, I'm not convinced either of you crossed the line, but both got too close to the line. In fact the more I watch it, the more I think the Golf holds more responsibility for the collision, he moved towards your lane.

If it was your fault and it’s broken, then yes you should pay. If it wasn’t your fault then no. It’s hard to tell from the video, did you move into the left lane?

It’s that simple to be fair

Looks like both cars moved slightly towards the centre line. Sensibly both suck up the minor damage from wing mirrors touching with a 3mph speed differential.

Or both go through insurance with 50:50 and lose ncd.

I wouldn't be buying him a mirror. It looks like at the last second he moved over towards your lane. Whether it was careless or on purpose who knows. The LH lane looks far wider he should have been able tp stay in the middle of

I'd be notifying my insurance of potential claim and giving them full details of the other car..

I’d be inviting him to lodge a claim with your insurance company (he won’t), then (and only if they contact you) send them the video and it’ll go 50/50 at worst

Looks like the golf was moving to centre line to overtake, but didn't really see you .... then blaming you for damaging mirror

What are you driving? He is driving a little Golf and given his wheel proximity closing in on that white line, he hit you,or managed to overlap his mirror.

If you’re a powerfully built company director, tell him to sod off, if it’s worrying you, she’ll out a few quid to make it go away, but still tell him, my dash am shows you leaving your lane.

hard to tell from the video, but it looks like you both were having trouble staying in lane, him worse tbh, just let insurance sort it out, be suprised if he claims

As he moved to the right, I instinctively muttered, "Where the fk is he going?"

Ok, I would have slowed down to avoid the collision but if he's damaged your car, then I'd be claiming on his insurance and he can also claim on his insurance.

This. I was wondering if the VW driver was trying to avoid a weird kerb or something but the lorry in front of the white car manages to keep his distance from the line.

Tell them to sod off, it's 50:50... Point them at the video and note that their mirror is also overlapping the white line so if they want to go insurance it will also be 50:50.

If they go through insurance be sure to let your insurers know about the video so they can laugh heartily at the inevitable claim for whiplash that the driver and the four passengers you didn't spot at the time file.

Go through insurance and provide the video. My view is that the white car swayed over into your lane, but didn't appear to breach the white line however as you watch on in the video the white car continues to sway over towards the central line. Either can't drive or distracted on phone.

At worst it will go 50/50. If he is arguing his passenger mirror was damaged in this he sounds like a bell end taking you for ride as it is clearly the drivers side where any impact would happen.

From 18th of the video, clearly the car was keeping towards central line, I believe it is the white car driver who across the line without notice (maybe he is using mobile phone ?) until my car which behind his car touch his right rear mirror.

Call me a witch or a psychic but I reckon he would say something like:

Looks like both cars moved slightly towards the centre line. Sensibly both suck up the minor damage from wing mirrors touching with a 3mph speed differential.

Or both go through insurance with 50:50 and lose ncd.

But I might be wrong.

Provide the third party with your insurance details and invite him to contact them to deal with his repairs. He probably won’t.

Did you even damage the mirror, it looks like you simply folded it forward?
