Threads missing pictures

Just reading this thread -

Early on the thread, quite a few pictures seem to be missing and replaced with a little empty square. Noticed it on a few other threads recently. See top and bottom left below.
Is it just me or does it do it for others too?

Some of the missing photos are because people (including me) used to use 'free' photo hosting sites like photobucket to enable high resolution ones rather than shrinking them to 2MB for Pistonheads thumbsnap process.

Then they started charging for hosting, so the links all stopped working. It's frustrating when I find a thread showing how to repair or service something but the photos no longer link.

Could be. But there are other photos in the thread that do show.

This is the reason. The photos that still show are hosted on other sites.

Today, the same thread is now showing little question marks.



So is the answer the OP may have posted some pictures by means of Thumbsnap etc and others by Photobucket, all in the same post?

, and some by other hosting sites. I think they have actually posted the url to pictures which are hosted on various sites.

If you right click the images (both the working & non working ones) you can see the hosting address. OP appears to have hosted their photos via a Google account (likely their own) and the photos that no longer show and redirect to a 404 / not available are most likely because those photos have been deleted / moved by OP so the original link address, from when it was first posted, is no longer valid.

One other non working image in the thread has a historic "Pistonheads" link (which was probably a photo posted in their profile and since deleted / removed) and at least 1 or 2 other images that are still showing (i.e engine pic) appear to be lifted from a 3rd party (Evo mag website).
