AnOrdain - 2026 build slot - yes or no?
Discussion
Like - clearly - many others, I put my name on the anOrdain waiting list for a waiting list.
Well, I’ve now had an email inviting me to pay a non-refundable deposit for a watch where the earliest build slots are in 2026.
I’m somewhat torn. And please excuse the thinking out loud element of this post - I would welcome views..!
I really like the look of their enamel dials and always prefer things in life that aren’t so obvious (although my original Seiko branded GS has been somewhat overtaken in that space by the rebranding to Grand Seiko). But…
…four years is a while to wait for a watch where the main draw is the dial. The movements are pretty pedestrian - Sellita hand wound or La Joux Perret automatic. And, while I know all other manufacturers do it, there are the intervening price rises.
With VAT and an auto movement, the current pricing for an fumé dialled watch is £3,475. AnOrdain say they expect annual price rises to be 5% - by 2026 that compounds up to north of £4K.
The amounts don’t bother me as such - though I’m not so well off that £4K is pocket change - but the sense of whether those amounts would still represent good value for the watch is what’s getting me. I have until Friday lunchtime to decide….
Be great to get your thoughts!

I handled a bunch of them in the summer at WindUp. Obviously they are hugely popular but I am shocked they are the best part of 4k.
Assuming “shocked” isn’t being overly dramatic
I haven’t handled them, so this does feel a touch hit and hope.
I guess the fact I’m not sure is probably telling me that they’re nice, but not that nice for the sort of money I’ll be expected to pay.
I really like their watches, but i've never seen one in real life. I registered my interest in January this year, and was invited to book a build slot in October. I thought about maybe getting one for my 40th.
The build slots weren't that far ahead when I was invited and there were plenty to pick from. I can't remember exactly the months available, but i'm sure there were a number for 2023.
I decided against it in the end, but I don't think i'd wait until 2026 for one, life's too short.

How much is the deposit?
£420 (although they specify as £350 + VAT). Which, based on my maths, is 10% if pricing compounds at 5% for four years. The more I think about it the less I’m inclined to go ahead. Life’s too short - will that be the watch I want when I turn 50..? Not sure.

2026 is a huge lead time - I know the enamelling isn’t exactly production line friendly but still…
If there is that much demand and you can afford to ‘lose’ £420 there is a chance to put an order in and then re-sell it another wait list member (will demand be that strong still in 2026)?

Just got my email.
First build slot I can select is in 1Q 2027.
Looks like each quarter has 150 slots.
I'm not interested in a 4 year wait, someone else can use my spot.
Are they taking deposits? I am sure anyone who has been involved in an enthusiast space has seen how wrong it can go when small businesses start to take deposits for work way into the future. Not suggesting anything malicious - but an illness, flood or what ever. It happens.First build slot I can select is in 1Q 2027.
