Can anyone point me to the manufacturer of LangDale please? I keep seeing conflicting dimensions online and I want to make sure the printer is using the right stock, as well as giving me something to aim for as an alternative.

(this is for folding box board)

Never heard of it! (30 years in print). Some boards are made under a generic name then each merchant gives it its own branding which might be what LangDale is. This is the only website I could find it on:
https://papercutz.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?cat=...

Your printer should be able to give you a data sheet, but they will buy the sheet size most appropriate for your job so don't get too bogged down in what sizes are available.
e.g. if your finished size is 300 x 400mm, they will print 2up on SRA2 (450 x 640) and trim it to size afterwards.

If you are after an alternative board you need to specify the micron and the weight and whether you want single sided or double sided.

Drop me a line if I can help.

Thanks RA, I appreciate your input. Should have realised it was a rebranded generic product when I couldn't get anywhere with the name.

Looks like I'm just after a similar folding box board, but I don't really want some high end stock thats used by big name brands, it would be a waste.

I'll get back to you if I have any issues (it's surprising how many printers try to get the job run out on, say 250gsm when I've asked for 350. Must be whatever's still on the shelf waiting to be used).

Most printers will have access to Invercote or Ensocoat which are standard boards without being expensive. We use a lot of Carte Lumina which is the brightest white single sided board we have found. But like you say, if you are only wanting small quantities you might get whatever they want to use up at the time!

The thing to watch with board is the gsm (weight) AND the micron (thickness) are important.
It matters less with paper as one 130gsm silk will be much the same thickness as another.

Paper and board are bought by weight, so if a merchant has a thick sheet but with low weight it is cheaper to buy. This is called a "bulky sheet" and will be full of fresh air. Think of a cereal packet compared to a business card. They are the same thickness but the weight is very different so by specifying BOTH the weight and the thickness you should get a more consistent product.

Good luck with it!

Very useful advice, thank you. I've had a forme made up and I didn't really specify what sort of board it would be used on, so when I described what the application was, I was told 'oh so langdale or something'.

Looking at invercote, there's 100% going to be something in that range, thanks for the recommendation. I'm looking at single sided, 350gsm, 400mic ish. When I looked at this papercutz I cojld see 250 as well as 350 being quoted for specs, maybe that was single and double sided.

One question, when it comes to sealing, will latex apply to any board finish? Like, uncoated?

Single sided Invercote is called Invercote G.
This might be a handy download for you:

Not sure about the latex! Most sealers used by printers are OK for gluing, foiling etc. If it's an uncoated board a sealer is often not used as the ink will dry better without. Are you putting the latex on or the printer?

Latex would be applied by a screenprinter, after printing, before guillotining + die cutting, uncoated side (tx for the link).
