Ridiculous things people say in online product reviews...
Discussion
Am I alone in wondering WTF goes on in some people's heads when they write reviews on the internet?
A few recent (and completely genuine) examples I have seen that make my teeth itch:
1. On ScrewFix for an electric sander - "Haven't got it out the box or used it yet but looks really good...." erm, maybe wait until you have then...?
2. On White Company site for an air-freshener for a car - "Bought this as a gift, so can't comment". STFU then !!!
3. For a kettle on Currys website - "Boils the water really fast which saves energy" (If you need this explaining then you're one of them)
Any of you have any other pearls to share...?

To be fair, they'll be from people who've left a review to stop the badgering that you get when you buy almost everything these days.2. On White Company site for an air-freshener for a car - "Bought this as a gift, so can't comment". STFU then !!!
I think some of these are caused by the purchaser receiving an email asking if the product was satisfactory, they reply thinking it is a message to an individual not realising the email question is soliciting for reviews.
See it a lot with amazon questions, where the answer is along the lines of ‘I don’t know as I bought it as a gift’.

I’m giving it 3 stars as I’ve only had it a week
I’m rating them 1 out of 5 as they were shut when we got there
2/5 as it was a long drive
On the flip side our local Hyundai dealer had loads and loads of 5 star reviews that al have exactly the same format, all from new people with just one review and odd names

I think that the above posters are right that some people just respond to the chaser emails.
My mother-in-law thinks that every single marketing thing is actually personally aimed at her. She often brings round estate agent flyers saying that someone wants to buy HER house as the estate agent wrote to her. I overheard her telling a friend at lunch that her house is so lovely as people write to her all the time wanting to buy it….no matter how often I explain it she still thinks it is a letter, to her, from the agent.
She buys everything over the phone and has long conversations with sales people on the phone. Mad as a box of frogs.

You have been selected to have your home chosen to have a discount conservatory as we would like to take pictures for a website, you have been selected to be a vip guest at the local Vauxhall event, special limited time half price solar panel offer etc
They are out there

Yup and they get put on "sucker lists" so they are targeted all the time. I have given up trying to protect her as you spend hours cancelling all the daft subscriptions and catalogues etc then 2 months later she is back at it. House full of "prizes" she has won….our Xmas presents are normally whacky tools that never work or plastic tat.You have been selected to have your home chosen to have a discount conservatory as we would like to take pictures for a website, you have been selected to be a vip guest at the local Vauxhall event, special limited time half price solar panel offer etc

No but this does appear to be the "thing" people do now. Everyone must post their thoughts on the internet (I know the delicious irony of my post)...
This is also why I see posters showing photos of the new SSD they have bought etc. It seems people are unable to do anything now without showing everyone else...... I bought one, fitted it and used it. Never thought to take a photo and tell the world, which I presume just means I am old...... (and yes again I see the irony in my post)

Reviews like this drive me up the wall. I go on Amazon to read reviews in the hope of making an informed purchase, but most of them are similar to the effect of "arrived in good time, haven't used it yet, etc.". How about reviewing it after a few months so you can tell us if it's actually a good product?Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
