Folks what are we saying ? What will be your Christmas tipple?

The missus loves a Baileys with ice and I’ve just made a homemade snowball. I know, I know, but I just don’t care I absolutely love them !

Might also get a few Belgium beers as I only have a couple but I like that they are so tasty and strong.

A bottle or 2 of LBV port usually finds its way into the house along with some PX sherry at this time of year.

Same as your wife - Baileys and ice. Christmas is the only time I drink.

I used to love that stuff. You have prompted me to get some but when I buy it I will pretend I am buying it for someone else.

Homemade eggnog. Start making it next week so it has a few weeks to mature.

Would you care to share the recipe? Where do you keep it while it matures?

This makes a large quantity:
  • 700ml dark rum (bourbon if you prefer)
  • 900ml double cream
  • 500ml whole milk
  • 300g caster sugar
  • 12 fresh eggs
  • nutmeg
  • vanilla pod

2-3 weeks before:
  • Separate the eggs and freeze the whites.
  • Mix everything else together.
  • Chill in fridge and shake every day. I make it in a 6 pint milk bottle.

When required:
  • Defrost whites and whisk to soft peaks and fold in.
  • Serve with fresh nutmeg grated on top.

Edit. Thought I would add, this makes a huge quantity, but I've become known for it every year so now needs lots. I typically offer it to everyone I know in the week leading up to Christmas.

Additionally, the alcohol preserves the eggs & cream, so decrease the proportion with caution.

I'll be enjoying a nice islay whisky -- last year I enjoyed a small bottle of Douglas Laing's. I've also ordered some Chartreuse Verte V.E.P. which is aged. Over ice it's lovely, particularly with a Partagas D4.
