Back in the summer I purchased this, sight-unseen.

It was a cat N write off due to what looked like dents and large scratches over the passenger side quarter panel and had covered 129k, however it said it drove so I decided to watch it. As the auction progressed there didn't seem to be much interest in it so when it came to its time on the block I threw a few bids in. The next thing I knew I had won.

The price? A wholesome £1,100.

Well, including auction fees and delivery we hit the heavy heights of £1,489.

It was delivered a few days later and it came as expected; absolutely filthy and without any paperwork. And I mean nothing, not even a V5C.

The important thing; what was the damage? Well, it was good news as it looked a lot worse than it actually was:

Having a proper look over I found it had heated leather (an added bonus as I'd not looked closely at the controls in the listing) rear parking sensors, xenon lights and 19 inch alloys (I thought they were 18s).

It fired up well, seemed to run quietly so I booked it in for its MOT with some nervousness. I shouldn't have worried however; it flew through without issue and in fact not even an advisory.

Next was a good wash and I got my polisher out and gave the rear quarter panel a good going over - 95% of the scratches came out, just leaving a few dents which are barely noticeable (as the photos show) - I was over the moon.

Fast forward a couple of months and as the cold weather set in I noticed it started to struggle getting up to temperature so I threw on a new thermostat which solved the issue.

Now I will state that I'm handy with the spanners and worked for both VW and Audi for many years and while I'm definitely a home mechanic rather than professional I did have a good start. I also ran a mk5 Golf gti for many many years which gave me a good insight into the Tfsi engine. In fact, the engine in it is a BWA which was the same as my Golf.

Unfortunately the inside was specified as cream. No idea why the original owner chose it as it's IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean. It was filthy but I tried my best.

Before:

And after:

A definite improvement however I don't particularly like the colour. Thankfully many are broken on a regular basis and I've just won a full black carpet and black centre consol for very little money. I hope this will lift the interior somewhat.

Considering I have no idea what this car has bee through in its life, it seems on face value to have been somewhat looked after. The engine is whisper quiet, it does 40mpg and doesn't squeak or rattle. I have had to have a new windscreen put in thanks to an overly aggressive stone that was flicked up mind.

Plans so far are:
Swap in the black carpets
Full service
Better tyres
Decent machine polish
New headlight bulbs
Remap

And I guess see where it takes me! Certainly it'll be done budget conscious and I'll keep updates on my spending and total cost.

Have you phoned Audi customer service to see if they have any history for it?

Looks great!

No service history I’d be doing the oil pickup ASAP.

Thanks guys.

The oil pick up is on the cards as its time for an oil change. And the later engines run timing chain. Mine is an earlier one so traditional belt.

I still have friends within the VAG group and it does have some early history which I have print outs for which is nice.

Lovely looking car.

Here’s an odd question
Do you happen to know if this era of TT can have a tow bar fitted?

I had some spare time today so I took to fixing the rear parcel shelf (it's a common issue where the mounting points break) and changing the pollen filter. Interestingly the one in it wasn't a carbon filter (as per OEM) however it was quite full with debris. I only use OEM service items as I'm able to purchase them at good pricing. Pollen filter done, I moved onto another issue I've noticed; the car steaming up in the mornings.

Now it's quite common for mk2 TT's to steam up however I wanted to see if I had anything exasperating the situation. One place to check is the scuttle and after popping the wipers off and lifting the scuttle up, I could immediately see the ridiculous amount of sludge in there.

Queue many many handfuls to clear it out, then a pipe cleaner down the drain hole followed by a load of water to flush it through and we now have a working drainage system.

There was no way the water was getting out so I'm assuming it may have been causing some of it so it'll be interesting to see after a few days if the clean scuttle, new, pollen filter and parcel shelf back on will make a difference.

Brilliant. The cars that interest me these days are the ones that are saved, survived, high-milers maintained and used regularly. Your TT has been given a new lease of life and looks great.

Yes I saw that, they are a European supplier and pricey. None of the usual uk suppliers seem to list one.
I’m downsizing but need a tow bar for gardening runs with a small trailer. scratchchin

Absolute bargain and you've won a watch on that one. Are you going to leave the dings and dents as they are?
