Does anyone know what the current wait time is for a new car? Was considering an order but a mate who was also thinking the same, just informed me that it's about 10-12 months! If that is true, might as well wait for the upcoming facelift I said and he agreed.

The whole motor manufacturing industry seem to be talking about electronic supply shortages.
I saw a news item today about Jaguar Land Rover, cutting one production line, but not laying off employees.
They say they are now concentrating on producing their most expensive models.

You have given one example Alex, of a lengthy delivery time resulting in a non-order.

Additional costs, lower production, delayed customer deliveries, almost complete vehicles in (probably open) storage awaiting parts.
It must be a nightmare for the people trying to manage these businesses.

Some of the Porsche and Lotus threads talk of waiting up to 2 years for a new order.

Jaguar Land Rover have over 200,000 cars on back order. Its still very hard to manufacture cars, it seems...

You could get an Artura to your spec in 3-4 months, but then there’s more to that story than meets the eye!

If you are serious about the new model then get your name on the list and pay a deposit now, otherwise you may find that a year from now there is still a waiting list.

That said I personally have a somewhat more pessimistic view of the world economy, and despite the raw elemental shortages to make components, I suspect peoples £ in their pocket will run out far faster than those minerals have done, so I think queues for luxury goods will find themselves somewhat in need of customers a year from now.

Time will tell smile

I was told by a UK dealer last week it was 6 months.

I also had my Porsche allocation cut in half from 24 months, delivery is now next March.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, there appears to be still a shortage of components. One hopes that manufacturers like AM won't compromise and thus the lengthy wait times.

I think the idea of putting a reservation/deposit down for the facelift model is good.

Do I recall correctly Alex, that you once had your own order placd, before the Vantage launch, but then changed your mind ?
Have you nearly bought since then ?

I went to view but never placed. The car was a pre-production model so had some quality issues that I wasn't happy with so decided to wait. Then COVID happened, the V12 (which I would have bought if they never limited production & price was realistic), talk of facelifts etc. The new front grille and wheel designs are a clear step in the right direction.

In the meantime, I've looked at other manufacturers but their designs just aren't as attractive.

All these chip shortages...yet tesla quoting 4 weeks to deliver a car from a new order according to my friend when he enquired about ordering one.

Ref ordering a new vantage...there is a facelift coming soon where hopefully they rectify some of the issues (mainly the interior and old MB tech)

I am not really in the market for a brand new Aston Martin myself at the moment so I can’t speak from direct experience, but I didn’t realise they were still quoting such lengthy lead times. I’m sure I saw a post on here not that long ago suggesting it was around six months for a new New Vantage, but perhaps things have deteriorated a little since then. I’m still waiting for a new SUV for Mrs Minglar (not an Aston Martin) which I ordered in March of this year, and it looks unlikely it will be here until March 2023 at the earliest. With regards to the rumoured updates, does anyone have any firm information of when we are likely to get at least a sniff? Apart from what has been discussed on here, I am fairly sure there is not much out there, either written or visual. I’m still somewhat sceptical that AML has the wherewithal to dramatically change any of the models in the range ahead of their electrification plans for 2025. Are AM dealers currently accepting deposits for any of the “revamped” models?

I remember reading an article in there a while ago but I’m not sure that Autocar is really at the cutting edge of motoring journalism nowadays. With 2023 less than five weeks away I was hoping to have heard more from AM or from Reichman on this subject by now. Most of the recent stuff I’ve read seems to be focussing on Valkyrie, Valhalla and plans to introduce an electric vehicle for 2025. Apart from his comments on infotainment I don’t recall reading much else regarding potential updates to the current range of mainstream models.

We shall see I guess.

I thought I read or heard somewhere changes would be the end of 2023, which would make them 2024 models? I could be wrong.

There was a db11 mule floating around.

The reality is pretty straightforward, if it were to launch in H1 2023 it would be a MY2023.5. They are not going to do a 0.5 MY for such a change, which means at the earliest H2 2023 for deliveries as an MY2024 car.

I do not envisage a great step on in terms of power trains for the DB11 or Vantage in V8 forms, as the gearbox in the Vantage at least, won't handle much more torque, uprating the box might sound an answer, but that is limited by space (hence why the V12 Vantage does not have the same torque output as the V12 elsewhere).

I think at best for those hoping out for major revisions you will see updated infotainment and some cosmetic updates. I don't personally think engine wise we will see much change, if there is space one cheap dirty way to hybrid the V8's is to switch out the torque convertor for an electric portion which ZF do have in their bank of parts....just a thought...

That being said AM is clearly hiring people around hybrid and electric cars. Additionally it seems they are taking knowledge from the Valkyrie project into the Valhalla.

Talk to an JLR executive the other day. They are indeed concentrating on higher margin cars as there is still a supply squeeze on some wiring looms etc, BUT more importantly it has to do with overall emissions. If a given manufacturer sells more ICE cars in relation to EV sold cars he will get penalised on each ICE car that he produces. Hence the focus on the higher margin ICE cars when EV cars are not selling as fast as planned.

With JLR though it's interesting they dumped the XJ series and don't offer a Jag competitor to the X7 and GLS. Would think an XJ or " GLS" competitor type vehicle flagship would have a significant margin. Always thought the last gen XJ's were pretty well liked.

Worth the wait - that is the question? Interior, infotainment...even the key should be an improvement.

To be fair where the key has been reviewed and flagged it tends to just be the valet key.

The vantage seems odd as some cars do have them, others seem not to. I think it was an option on early vantages. I managed to get mine upgraded to the nicer metal one and a free key case.

Downside is now want to upgrade my valet one...

Phoenix keys do some nice upgrades as well.
