I think I’m out of luck here

My wife has received a penalty notice in the post after the original ticket must have been removed from the car.

We are not disputing it but am mildly grumpy that the 50% discount has now gone, even though we knew nothing about it.

Is this a suck it up buttercup moment?

Talk to them.

This happened to me. A meeting over ran but I assumed that I'd been lucky.
couple of weeks later got the letter increasing the fine. When I rang them they were ok about it and I paid the original fine over the phone.

Whenever I've gone past the "discount" period, I just send the original amount and have never had any problems.

Is this a council issued ticket?

As another poster said, no harm in giving them a call and explaining the situation.

had this with Camden council where i parked (whilst on holiday) in a suspended residential bay for 5 days, but there were only 4 tickets on the windscreen. Zero sympathy from Camden who insisted on the increased amount, notwithstanding that i had paid the four present tickets as soon as i found them, so they might reasonably have assumed i would have paid the fifth had it been present. Apparently it was my responsibility, not theirs, to ensure that I received the missing ticket spin

Camden are the worst. You're lucky you weren't towed. I have been once, and the second time I got back to the car just as the two truck arrived.

Could not call them, only option was a formal appeal. They replied today saying the ticket stands (which is fine, and not what I asked for), but they would reset back to the £25. A win for me.

They enclosed someone else's ticket with their reply, which is unfortunate. After a row with a call centre I got through to the team to let them know, who were not ever so pleased!

Thanks all. I would have probably not bothered with the appeal without the initial encouragement.
