Elf on the Shelf

my mum bought the grandkids one of these f
kers so we could start doing the elf on the shelf thing. She was asking for pictures of what we'd done with the elf, but in reality we'd sold it on Facebook marketplace to some moron who was happy to pay over the odds for it in the midsts of the 2020 lockdown.

I thought we might escape it this year, the teacher had asked if the kids wanted to do anything in the classroom for Christmas and when one of them suggested an elf she apparently replied with "I haven't got time to start messing around setting that up every day" 
I suspect my daughter knows it's us but also likes the idea of making me do this for her, especially as Mum was very much against getting one and I relented.
Ideas and links have been shared previously, I need all the help I can get...

As each year goes by there seems to be more and more stuff you can just buy or the ideas get more and more elaborate, I just need to get through this year without permanently defacing any more of my wife's artwork, I didn't realise the whiteboard marker would stain the glass when I decorated the image a bit
