Silverskin onions.

Special occasions only. Weddings, Christenings and the Christmas Eve party at Uncle Bob and Aunt Rene's house.

I've just bought this year's jar.

Trips to London. Especially at Christmas to see the lights. The atmosphere, the bustle, roast chestnuts from a barrow.

Even the disappointment that was Picadilly Circus didn't put me off. They said we were going to the circus. They said.

Putting gloves, hats and scarves on the radiator for a little while before you go out on a cold morning. My mum used to do it for me. Socks sometimes too.

With my Mum's side of the family all being Londoners this was a regular treat for us all year round, despite the horrendous traffic now I still get a buzz from family jaunts to Hammersmith and Barnes, even if only for the day. It's busy beyond belief now, far more than it was in the '70s and '80s but there is still something special about the place for me. Nan would always make me a big mug of hot milk when we stayed in her tiny flat in Cromwell Ave W6, I still enjoy this now, once or twice a week.

Smashing. When I worked in Hammersmith I often stayed up instead of commuting and would frequently find myself in The Bulls Head in Barnes for the live music.

We did a thing at work where someone would suggest a lunch and everyone went along. Except when I suggested Pie and Mash at Cooke's in the Goldhawk Road only one colleague came with me. And he only had a cup of tea. Wimps.

Double pie and mash with liquor, lashings of vinegar, in a proper East End eel and pie house. Sawdust on the floor, tiled walls, more than 50 years ago but I can recall it like yesterday.

Ice cream float .
Usually made by my dad on high days and holidays.
For those that don't know, ice cream soda with vanilla ice cream in a tall glass.
Other flavours also work .
Coke floats were very popular when we lived in Singapore in the 60s .

Wow! I had those when I was a kid but haven't even thought about one since!

Thanks. I think I need to make one RIGHT NOW.

Snow shuvling.

I now understand why my dad would go clear the drive etc. 100% it's an adults way of going to play in the snow. My snow pile happens to land in a snowman shape.. lol
