Hi soon to be collecting a new car whats everyone's thoughts on not registering it until March 23. I know this may seem a strange question but dealer said it wouldn't be ready until late jan early fed 23 now it looks like delivery before Christmas. I've seen people with cars they owned from new but never registered them did some checking on the Internet and it seems no car should leave the dealer without it being registered thoughts please
I was a salesman with Land Rover in the early 2000’s and we wouldn’t let you take anything unregistered off site.
Rationale being that we were paid out from LR on actual registrations, not physical vehicle sales. Different days back then granted. I suppose it can’t hurt to ring the salesman at Audi and at least ask the question?

Yes that does seem to be the case but you do hear of people having cars/bikes that they say have never been registered it makes me wonder if that is the reality 🤔 Rationale being that we were paid out from LR on actual registrations, not physical vehicle sales. Congrats on the new car - I’ve just swopped my wife’s RS3 for an RS4.
Nice swap alscar this will be my first adventure into Audi rs land had lots of ford rs cars over the years still have a mk3 focus rs also hand M3 s a couple of amg cars .originally the q3 was thought to be arriving around Feb time so a march reg date was pencilled in it seems the factory have caught up with back orders and the shortages so my thoughts were to pay for it and put it in the garage until March Congrats on the new car - I’ve just swopped my wife’s RS3 for an RS4.
It's quite common for dealers to pre-register or do the registration with pre-allocated numberplates without involving you at all. So you may have to wend your way through those challenges.
Whether it's a good idea or not I'm not sure what the benefit is?
I can see a potential downside with it potentially making your car look like it was from a different model year which might make it difficult to buy parts or bounce you into as-yet unknown tax regime changes / emissions zone restrictions!

RS , in which case taking it and putting it away whilst you use other cars sounds sensible although once you’ve driven it you may change your mind.
Our RS4 took 8 months to arrive - the salesman originally suggested 7 months and everything was on there with no unpleasant surprises - actually one surprise - a heated steering wheel - lol.
I took delivery of an R8 earlier this year after only waiting 4 months and with a PTS colour but a separate production line.
I’ve had 5 new Audis over the last few years and each time have been impressed by the general build and experience quality.

Don’t understand it… car is there for you, why store it for 3 months? Just so you have a new reg? Do you think you will have much more equity on it by waiting 3 months come sale time?
I tend to buy cars for me to use, not for the benefit of the person I will eventually sell.
Each to their own. I understand if from cash flow purposes you were looking for a feb delivery but otherwise just register it.

M<y old man bought a new Mk2 RS2000 back in the day, one of the very last ones to be made. He kept it, unregistered in the garage with his daily driver RS2000 alongside, eventually putting it on the road with a X plate.
He did similar with a pair of Mk 1 Sierra Cosworths, getting a very late one which he kept alongside his daily driver version.

Moneys good to go has been since order i supposed you could argue why does anyone buy a car and put in the garage
