As PH knows used car prices are high and new cars have long lead times for obvious reasons.

Looking at a Rav4 today the dealer wanted £45,000 for a pre-reg one. Drive the deal for the same spec new order wanted £40,000. However lead time is up to September 2023.

Wondering if I opted for the drive the deal how much my BMW M235i GC would lose each month to help with my decision?

If it's an impossible question to answer Ill get my coat....

As of today, the difference in median asking price between a 2020 M235i GC and a 2021 example is £2000 (£33k vs £35k)

(Methodology - go onto AT, search for M235i GC, set year from and to to the same year, sort by price, go to the middle car, that's your median asking price).

The difference of a year will itself decrease gradually as the cars get older (so 6 yrs old vs 5 yrs old will be less different than 1yr vs 2yr), likely a similar % of value.

The big unknown is what used car asking prices as a whole will do over the next 12 months. There's a looong thread speculating on that already so I won't add to that, but obviously any shift in the market as a whole will most likely also affect the value of your car.

Thanks for taking the time to reply and I appreciate the answer. I know it’s an unknown. I could wait and take a 20% reduction over ten months. More than that it would hurt a lot 🤣

Depends whether you want to take a five grand risk in an ever-softening market!
