Inspired by learning that the new BMW X7 doesn't have keyless sensors in the rear doors (what, my 11 year old Discovery has that), what other things just smack of cheapness in car? Another one of mine, although a bit petty, is that VW seem incredibly reluctant to clad the inside of the door pillars in their cars (well the Golf and Passat) with a trim - so you get faced with painted metal.

At some point, the spec of the M135i/M140i changed such that the passenger side mirror glass no longer had the auto-dimming coating... Can't see it saving all that much!

Cars that have the rear foglight on the O/S and the exact opposite side is the reverse light, especially when one is obviously white/clear and the other is red, it looks odd and it smacks of cheapness.

VAG group cars (seems to be predominantly them) which have the same stereo head unit regardless of whether there is nav or not, the nav button is still there, you press it and it comes up with a message that nav isn't available, it is almost taunting you that you have a lesser spec car.

Haptic steering wheel buttons.

Hateful things that must be cheap because there's no other reason to make something so nasty that's used everyday.

My mother's Jeep Renegade has no electric folding mirrors. Really useful on off roaders (I know, it's a Renegade...) in country lanes when passing other larger vehicles but no. No reason for it other than cheapness.

God yes, I drove a Cupra Born a few months back, I kept on changing things and settings when driving it by my hand when it brushed over he steering wheel controls, you'd hear a little noise and wonder what it as you'd inadvertently changed or activated.

I read that in future models VW are going back to proper buttons and switches.

The no cost option of having a rear wiper - In other words, you are paying for it, but unless you ask for it, we're not giving it to you.

Agreed, blanking buttons destroy the balance of my otherwise luxurious interior. Not to mention the cheapness they imbue.

Sat at the back of new 3 series recently and noticed that the back of rear door has metal exposed (not unlike pillars mentioned here already).
Super cheap looking and my e90 does not have it.

Not backlit cruise control stack - I am looking at you Toyota.

“Leather” seats.

All the new Mercs have these things - absolute PITA and I wouldn't buy one for that sole reason. You end up inadvertently changing settings, radio, volume, display and then when you want to use them they don't bl00dy work!

My Mercedes AMG is the same - thought the passenger mirror had been broken and replaced with cheap aftermarket at first

Black plastic trim bits everywhere, particularly arch trims, like what you have to have on every Mini that's not a Works GP. Hateful hateful things, look terrible and have no place on any car that costs over about 50p.

Just get a white pen and carefully write your own fun James bond esque options. Stuff like ejector seats and rocket launchers.

What's worse though, blanking plates or buttons that don't function? That's a tough call!

Doors where the window frame forms the A post and roof rather than sitting inside an aperture. Examples include:

Various Dacias

Mk3 Cavalier

W220 S Class

E36 3 Series

Always looks cheap and nasty. All touch screen interiors exist for no other reason than cost, I am sure, they are bloody awful.

Why would you want a rear wiper on a saloon? Another thing to go wrong, and the airstream clears the rear screen on a saloon. I guess the free option is there for those who think ‘I really MUST have a rear wiper on my saloon’
