The price of real Xmas trees.

So eyeing up a 7ft tree for the flat. Normally
I get one at cost price from my pal who runs a fruit and veg stall. Unfortunately, this year his supplier has gone bust therefore he isn’t selling any.
I’ve had to go to a different supplier who is round the corner from where I live. I live in Manchester City Centre. I could drive further afield but I’m meant to be selling mr car next week so don’t really want to risk damaging the interior or having to have it valeted again.
So I asked the price and it was £85 for a 7ft tree. I was quite surprised at the price to be honest. So what is everyone else paying for a tree on average?

Cambridge for us. Price depends on where you go - we go for an 8 ish footer. (We'd go bigger if we could easily get one) Our choices are :
A local yard that does any size tree for £35 - when they are gone they are gone (they were £25 last year!) but he closes at 6pm.
Homebase - anywhere from £20 (small) to £57 (8 ft)
Garden centers are about £85 for the 8 footer.

Artificial tree will go up soon with the “spare” box of decorations set to one side - Christmas Eve morning I’ll pop down to Waitrose and pick up the real tree. Every year I think I won’t bother but they flog off the unsold £75 Norman Firs for £10 so it gets a few days in the house then seasons nicely to go on the log burner the following Christmas…
(Doesn’t really cost much more than the logs I buy specifically to burn!)

We bought one, it’s now in the garden with the trunk in a bucket of rain water. It will last for ages, put it up in the front room in a couple of weeks.fat80b said:

Homebase have a deal on around this time that the trees are half price - so a 6-7 ft for £25! We’ve got ours from there every year for the past 7 years or so. Only this year opening times seem to have changed to a 6pm close, and of course we missed it by 15 minutes A local yard that does any size tree for £35 - when they are gone they are gone (they were £25 last year!) but he closes at 6pm.

B and Q tend to reduce them to£1 in the last few days before Christmas round this way.(Doesn’t really cost much more than the logs I buy specifically to burn!)
Ha! We usually go for a ten or eleven footer. Been shelling out over £10/foot for the last few years…

(They have always been beautiful, even trees, wide as you dare at the bottom, and so dense that you can’t see the trunk even without decorations. So there’s that)

Local independent tree farms are the best ones for freshness and vfm currently. You can pick and pay then have it cut down when you’re ready for it. 7ft for £40 is the average round here.
It’s rare for shops to get more than 1 or 2 deliveries of trees so leaving it later may just mean it’s the tree that’s been there a few weeks you’re buying.
You could just decorate a tree outside your window though
