911 & PW - sub-office of Visit Britain?
Discussion
OK, I know this months edition had a "great drives" theme but is seems to me that every second article lately has more info on travelling up and down dales than the actual car. Coming from Ireland I will hold my hand up and say that I now realise the UK has some stunning parts but finding out about them is not what I want from a car mag unless it is particularly special – welsh twisties, Isle of Man, Nurburgring etc.
Is this the post Raby era? (no doubt John FM will comment). I remember some cracking articles last year (does anyone remember the cover shot of a Tahoe blue 964 with 19 inch Avalanche Bi-Metal alloys - owned by a guy who had built a 993 engined 964 for his brother). Now that was an article that genuinely excited me about Porsche ownership...the unbridled passion....and where are the readers cars this month? My subscription may be swinging to Total 911.

Agreed. I like Tipler's articles, but this edition has too many in one serving and you begin to wonder whether you're reading a tour guide or a motoring magazine. I hope it's an aberration on Horton's part and not a sign of things to come. Total911 seems to have got it right again this month - definitely the superior magazine at the moment, in my view.
There was one upside to the magazine this month. A terrific letter from a rightly furious bloke, absolutely seething about Keith Seume's ridiculous 2.7 Carrera.
I've long been puzzled about what this lunatic has done to his classic machine, and I pissed myself reading the torrent of abuse he received in readers letters.
I can imagine Horton apologetically saying that they really should publish it, and secretly loving it.
People seem to have forgotten the 'tattoo' that he had done on the rear end. It's never photographed now, but when he had it done there was a short article on it.
That man should be put in a straight jacket.

Well, since I've been invited to comment I will say this - for some Porsche owners or prospective Porsche owners, 911 & PW is an OK read. However, the reason I Rob, Phil & I live a life of penury is because we firmly believe we make a much better magazine for the majority (though not all) of readers.
On the subject of 'trave;' pieces, I think they have their place for a mature Porsche readership, but clearly there has to be something special about the destination or the car, or there's no point it being in a Porsche magazine.
