Only just crossed my path, so may have already been talked about, (search revealed nowt)...

He was attacked by a bear as he was tracking it, and got caught out faffing with a camera. His face was ripped off, and he videoed himself after the attack.

The thing I find incredible is the before and after pic. The plastic surgery pics are incredible considering the start point, (or not, I'm no expert). He kept his nose by picking it up, along with his mostache, and popping it in his pocket. They kept it alive by attaching it to his arm. It's all very incredible.

The injuries are in spoiler tags as they are pretty damned gruesome. Hope that is ok and not breaking rules.

Attack pic... Blood and gore warning.

Definitely an animal that you need to respect and not let your guard down. Most of time they will leave you alone, but occasionally they will attack.

I had a very close encounter in Montana when I was out one afternoon fishing for cut throat trout. Thankfully the bear was more interested in elk in the river which I had spotted and thought best to get away from. Amazing creatures though.

I'm not squeamish but after seeing the first picture in the article I don't really want to see any more - that image was very graphic. I really can't believe what a good job the plastic surgeon made, unbelievable work.

Bloody hell, how on earth did surgeons manage to reconstruct his face so effectively? He’s better looking than me and I’ve never been attached by anything more destructive than a vole.

Yeah, but it was a pretty big vole, with gnashing teeth and everything!

We get bears in the garden every season and see them loads out on the trails from spring to late autumn. Respect is essential, especially aggressive mother with her cubs.

and yes, that linked article/image is graphic. wow. lucky man.

I was watching some program following the work of Alaskan wildlife rangers when one of then stopped to check a fishermans permit, before the ranger could say a word the fisherman informed him he had a handgun in case of bear attack...

Ranger... What gun do you have?

Fisherman... Smith & Wesson Model 500

Ranger... yikesbow

No grizzlies here, but we do get brown and black bears, which apparently are easy to scare off.

Still, I camped in some woods when I visited a friend and later discovered they have trail cams in that patch, and regular bear visitors of both ilk!

Would not want to be disturbed in my hammock by any kind of bear!

Probably more chance of you falling over and shooting yourself than been attacked by a bear.

That's on my Christmas list. But the shorter barrel - the long barrel options are a bit mental.

9mm, 45 ACP, 5.56, S&W 500...and .50 for fun!

One thing's for sure...my windows need a clean!

You have to go a little further North for grizzlies here too - although we do occasionally head up that way.

More black bears here that are usually more scared of you than you are of them...however never underestimate a momma-bear!
