Talk to me about the Ford Fiesta 2018/19
Discussion
Looking for another car, and the early Mk8 Fiesta could fit the bill, either an ST-Line or the Active.
I wasn’t aware that the 1.0 Ecoboost came with 3 different power outputs, makes it all the more confusing, what are each like? I guess I’ll rule the 99bhp out straight away.
Is the B&O worth searching out, or is the standard one quite good?
Thanks

I had a hire St Line 1.0 ecoboost a few years back (2020). Ran it for one month and 2.5k miles.
I really liked it. Decent performance. I thought the efficiency would be slightly better. Managed 44mpg, but that was exclusively motorway miles. Would have expected over 50, but i wasnt paying for it, so didnt care too much. Glasgow to Coventry and back again for 4 weeks.
I suppose it depends what your after.

I’ve driven a few and really like them.
As someone else above posted I always seemed to get ~40mpg out of no matter how I drove it.
I think it’s brilliant with the 140bhp engine and in ST Line it’s really good fun and gets a proper shift on down a B road. You’d have no issue keeping up with the run of the mill Audi or BMW.

My wife has had a 70 plate 1.0L ST Line X from almost new. It’s the 155bhp mild hybrid with probably every gadget going. Now on 17k, no problems, it’s a great little thing. It does around 45mpg, perfectly acceptable as she does around 30 miles a day stop-start as a home carer in her job.
It’s obviously no long distance cruiser, anything over 200 miles a day would be a bit tiresome. I’ve a Focus ST for long trips.

There were plenty of tales of woe about the ecoboom engines in the early days something to do with a coolant pipe bursting.
Also some of the ecoboost engines have a "wet" cambelt and another wet belt to drive the oil pump.
It's a very expensive job to change them but I think the life is about 90k miles.
Sorry but don't know if any of the above doom applies to the Fiesta

Ours has the B&O upgrade. I’m a keen music fan and have an excellent home system but never been too bothered about top end hifi quality in my cars. However, the B&O system is very good imo.I wasn’t aware that the 1.0 Ecoboost came with 3 different power outputs, makes it all the more confusing, what are each like? The eco boost engines been around since 2009, the earlier ones were occasionally problematic. Also some of the ecoboost engines have a "wet" cambelt and another wet belt to drive the oil pump.

Again ST related but one of the mechanics at our local Ford has had a new ST every two years. He is not known for being mechanically sympathetic & gives them death every day & tracks them regularly & never had a mechanical failure.

I might up my budget and go for a Puma… the new Fiesta
Puma is labelled a SUV crossover. Kind of sad to be honest how they've taken the old name and used it for that, but apparently it's one of the top selling cars at Ford now. People reckon they're gonna bring back a name like Capri soon, and I wouldn't doubt it.
Yeah, there's been 3 power versions of the 1.0 Ecoboost, there used to be only two (100 and 125) until around 2014 when the Fiesta Red and Black editions came out if I'm not mistaken, which was where the 140 first made its debut. Personally had a 140 ST-Line, but it was a MK7 not a MK8, and very nice engine up to national speed limits. Past that I can't really say as I didn't drive too much. My driving instructor who I had a refresher lesson with today has a car with a 3 cylinder engine also, but a different brand and it apparently is around 110 or 115PS. Felt pretty quick but I hadn't driven for 3 years. I'm surprised at how the VW Up GTI is apparently capable of driving around in 5th at 30mph as I saw on a Volkswizard video. That's like nuts to me as I'd only be in 4th max.
The interior in the MK8 Fiesta appears to be much better than the previous generations, but don't know too much about the B&O sound versus stock. Probably worth finding one with it though if you care about car audio.
I don't think my MPG (or what the trip computer showed as the average from a few of us driving) was particularly amazing, but maybe that's down to driving style and not really needing fifth gear. I can't remember for certain whether it was mid thirties or mid twenties, and I for some reason think it was mid twenties which is kinda surprising as that seems worse than the 1.6 ST (from the MK7 generation). I might have to dig out old photos at some point and see if I kept a record of that
998 engine is mighty impressive, difference between power levels seems to be which map is installed which you can update yourself. ST line has slightly lower and stiffer suspension and some different trim. All trim levels handle and drive very well. Mk8 has 6 speed box over the 5 speed in the Mk7.5 which suffers from syncromesh problems in first and second. Apart from that and some trim there is little difference between Mk7.5 and 8.
It is a very accomplished chassis with an excellent engine. Have no experience of the B&O kit
