AMi III - iPhone not connecting
Discussion
Evening all,
A question for those with an AMi III infotainment system - has anyone ever had an issue where the system won’t recognise your iPhone when connected (via the cable)?
When I connect my phone it very briefly flashes up (on the phone screen) that it’s connected to a power source but then disconnects immediately and the car won’t register that there is a phone connected (ie no CarPlay, etc.)
Rather bizarrely, if the car is driven for 30 minutes and then restarted, the phone is picked up straight away…
For info:
- Happens on multiple phones
- Car battery is in a good state
- Doesn’t work to simply restart the car / infotainment system at the outset, you need to drive it for a period of time
- Had a software update less than two weeks ago (as thought / hoped it might be that)
Any help would be hugely appreciated, as I’m struggling without Waze!
Thanks in advance.

Happens randomly to mine once every few weeks.
Works replaced everything and it still sometimes happens. Now I just live with it!
Many thanks for your quick response. Was worried that might be the case…Works replaced everything and it still sometimes happens. Now I just live with it!
Will keep my fingers crossed for a solution (and will let you know if I find one outside of PH)
I would say your issue is either firmware related (most likely), as in you're not on the latest and most stable version, or as said above you are using a non-official Apple cable.
Have a read of my AMi III Setup Tips thread for information on firmware, and a few other bits n bobs

In my car (2017 Vanquish S volante) the cable connection only works in one of the two usb ports in the centre compartment and has to be a genuine cable.
One on the idiosyncrasies of owning an Aston...
It also reboots itself every now and again for no apparent reason - I've just learnt to live with it!!

Thanks, everyone, for the replies (and for the helpful guide, Adam). I will try swapping out the cable and hope that resolves it. It should have the latest firmware.
Please do check the firmware version against my guide. Most tech's dont really know which one is the most stable and you could well have been told you have the latest but dont actually have it. I spent a lot of time working with my AM MD tech and the factory on the information in that thread. Only the final exact version I have listed is anywhere close to "stable" really.andyduncan said:

Again please check your firmware version. Random reboots is a sure sign that you have one of the earlier less stable versions. One on the idiosyncrasies of owning an Aston...

For ease of reference - if any of you have any version other than 3.1.10/1.107 then get it updated to this. This is the best and most stable version. There is a one later version as I mentioned in my setup thread, but it is significantly less stable.
3.1.10/1.107 is what you should all be running on AMi III cars.

Worked fine today. Double checked and cable is an Apple one, but checked the firmware and it’s 3.1.8 / 1.107 (despite being updated 9 days ago), so will have it updated to 3.1.10 when it’s next in. Thanks again.
Ahh ok check the history audit detail on my log at the bottom of that setup tips. You have an earlier version which was not as stable. Please ensure the tech fits the version I have listed then and NOT the final final version - as that one is even worse than the version you have now!
Also worth noting that the APP and BASE come as a pre-packaged pair, the ROM file being assembled by the supplier via the factory and sent out to your tech to download, so you need to ask for the pair of numbers to ensure you don't end up with yet another new and potentially untested combo.
