Rough running, slow engine pickup problem solved!

Has anyone seen this before?
I took my car out for a spin and stopped to get petrol - BP Ultimate (Optimax garage was too far away for the amount I had left). After filling up, the car ran fine for about 10 miles. Then, started to hiccup and kept almost stalling at juntions. Crept home and the engine then died on the driveway. Left it to cool and when I restarted it was fine. Took it out again and the symptoms returned.
I thought - stepper, water temp sensor, coil, lambda sensor... So, starting with the cheapest, got a new temp sensor and a set of plugs. It was only when I started to remove the plugs that I found two of the plug cores had broken inside the ceramic (on the outside of the engine fortunately). Needless to say, new plugs sorted the problem. Any suggestions on what might have caused them to snap? The snap was clean the ceramic untouched and otherwise the plugs were in good condition.

My car has been doing this recently, and by the number of threads, so have a lot of other cars. Have just bought new plugs (Champion Eon), leads (Magnecor KV85), and coil (Flamethrower), as well as new distrubor cap and rotor arm. Will be fitting these this weekend - hopefully will cure the problems i've been experiencing.

This problem is caused by one of two things, when fitting the plugs, due to the angle the socket needs to be you can sometimes fracture the porceline this is the most common cause. secondly if you are suffering from detonation or pinking the shock can go through the plug and crack them.
I am a new Chimeara owner and am experiencing poor sub low end running. I am about to go on hols but the Chaimaera is off to Doctor Dave's fun farm in deepest Lancashire whilst I am away for what I am sure will be another hyper bill.
Am I being unlucky or are these cars just totallky problematic?
The flip side is I love her to bits and will never part with her. The best of my ladies in my distant past never caused me to part with this much cash.
