After a few recent, and very expensive, trips to Brighton, are there any cheaper places in town to park than the usual NPC/EuroParks car parks? The marina car park seems to be free (or at least, nobody checks), but it's a good walk from the middle of town. Am usually there on a weekend, not that it seems to make much difference to prices or the number of parking wardens out and about, but you would have thought it would have been cheaper.

Doubtful. Brighton hates cars with a passion.

Suggest park in Hassocks, Hove or Saltdean and use public transport for the rest of your journey.
The 700 Coastliner bus is good.

Better still, don't go to Brighton unless you really have to. There are less mad places nearby.

Ok, well if we assume that I am mad enough to visit, and "not going" simply isn't an option, then what cheap/free car parking is available? biggrin

Anywhere near the centre of town... none. As pointed out, the "Green" (actually watermelons) council hates cars and would prefer that you do everything on a bicycle.

Further out of town, where available, the on-street parking can be "reasonable" - define - is you only need a couple of hours but finding a space is not easy as most of it is permit holders only.

The best option, if you can make it work for you, is to park on the outskirts and walk in.

Now... if only there were something sensible like a park and ride... which there isn't because the council hate cars and parking schemes encourage people to use them.

If you tried to pitch this as a highly implausible comedy farce movie you would get laughed out as being unbelievable.

Except there is a park & ride from Withdean stadium.

Locals in the know used to park at Waitrose on Western road, as they'd rarely put someone on the exit gate to check leaving cars. I think they've put up cameras now to stop that. You still get 90 minutes free there though. Otherwise, cough up.

We used to live in Brighton and then along the coast in Worthing until a year ago. We were regular visitors back to Brighton and always used to park at the train station. Plenty of spaces and relatively cheap, a lot cheaper than using NCP and the like.

There is a park and ride, but don’t let that stop you.

If you park at the Marina, there’s a bus to take you into the centre.

Alternatively, parking in a city centre is expensive. Who’d have thought.

Well... nearly. It's not a proper park and ride scheme. It's just an out of town car-park where you are then told to catch a normal bus service into town. It is not a dedicated bus into town with no stops like other towns' P&Rs.

Half-a-job.

Blimey, I thought they closed that loophole donkeys' years ago. Good luck if it still works.

The free parking at the Marina with a No. 7 bus to/from the town is probably the best card of a poor hand. Be warned though at the Clock tower it turns away from the bright lights and heads towards the station.

Park near Portslade station. There's free parking within a reasonable walk.

Hop on the train, takes 8 minutes-ish I think.

We used to live there. If it must be the centre I'd use here https://churchillsquare.com/ It's not cheap as such but it's about the best there is and it's certainly better than the robbing NCP that it's just behind.

If you're prepared to hop on a bus then either the Marina as others have said, or park in Patcham (huge Asda there) and hop on a bus down into town. Doesn't take long at all and parking is then free. In fact a cab from Patcham there and back would probably offer a saving.

Depends when and where you want to park, I have been using Just Park and found some nice spots in Brighton, there a nice one opposite the i360, and one Marins end of town I have used good value too and no risk of carpark dinks.

Careful of the Marina, I think it is 4 hours max. Also Asda will issue fines if you use their carpark outside of their opening hours.

Norton Road car park is the best.

Opposite Hove Town Hall. £8-9 per day. Bus ride from town centre
