It occurred to me the other day that we often judge people on their choice of cars, boring, sporty , left field etc.
I've had a long history of cars going back to 1984 when i traded my Vespa p200E in for a Beetle that was as rotten as a pear. My dad leant me the money for a deposit on a new Ford Escort from TC Harrison in Sheffield. £4200 on the chucky with optional extra's ; Head rests , AM radio and some paint protection crap for suckers. B165 FDT may have been a start for a young petrolhead but here is a list of all the cars that i had on the road . There were many more "projects". Maybe there's a few here that i should have kept.
Still own the the Rolls and the TR7 ( both worth nothing) but most of the others i should have kept, like the 964 RS are long gone when i was short of money. I may have missed a couple but here goes;

bow

In that period I've had 7 cars. I think you've owned more cars than I've driven.

Quite a varied selection there... I've been riding/driving from a similar period and have owned around a hundred or so vehicles, not all keepers, so probably similar to yourself.

I always think it strange, when folk on here seem to think they can sum up someone's character by their choice of car, usually without knowing anything else about them. Your knackered Beetle might well give a different impression to your Porsche.
Personally, I've never owned a new car, but have had such diverse stuff as a Bristol, 2CVs, Porsche, Panther, various kit cars etc and a few hot rods and pick up trucks. Currently own a sixty year old matt black American van, which probably marks me out as some sort of serial killer/hipster camper... and a forty year old roadster which looks at home parked in a field with a load of anorak trainspotter types... I won't even start on the bikes!

Yeah, my motorbike history is really varied.

Just remembered a couple more New Mercedes A class with concertina sun roof and full leather. That was an amazing design when launched, really ground breaking engineering. Most of my purchases are engineering and aesthetically led rather than practical.
Favourites have been the Volvo 850 estate and the "CV which made me hoel with laughter when it had 4 of us between junction 36 and 37 of the M1 watch the speedo trying to climb to 35 MPH. A lesson in why a short cut was nearly fatal.

My dad has had over 300, all secondhand (including at least 50 Austin 7’s), but hasn’t bought a car (other than a race car) since about 2002.

My history, as far as I can remember, since 1989 is as follows (I’m letting the side down)

Mk 1 Fiesta 1.1 ‘millionth’ edition (with stripes!)

Citroen BX 1.9TD

Triumph TR7

MG Maestro 1.6

MG Maestro 2.0

Porsche 924S (loved it)

MK3 Fiesta van (diesel)

MG Maestro 2.0 EFI

Skoda Octavia estate

Peugeot 205 GTi

And another one

And another one

MK3 MX5

Panda 100HP

Skoda Yeti

Renault Clio RS200

Peugeot 208 stop gap car (hated it)

Ford Anglia 105e race car

Land Rover Freelander 2 HSE (loved it)

VW Up GTi (love it)

Mini Cooper Clubman (love it)

Still really want a really good Austin A40.

My car history since 2006 is here (24 and counting) - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I have drawn up all of my cars into a table for bonus anorak points. Some stats:

Smallest engine - 1.3 Volkswagen Polo
Biggest engine - 3.0 BMW 330ci, 330ci, 530i, 530d, Mondeo ST220, Audi S5

Least powerful - 55bhp 1.3 Volkswagen Polo
Most powerful - 350bhp Audi S5

Fewest cylinders - 4
Most cylinders - 6

Automatics - 3
Manuals - 21

Petrols - 19
Diesels - 5

Oldest - 1995 Volkswagen Polo & Peugeot 306
Newest - 2017 Audi S5

Top manufacturer country - Germany
Top manufacturer - BMW

Average BHP (Stock) - 165
Average CC - 2,087cc
Average purchase mileage - 73k

I've assumed Ford as USA and Vauxhall as Germany - Probably wrong but not sure how they would fall.

I've had 40 cars in 32 years of driving. 46 if you count cars bought as spares donors.

I don't think I can list them all, though, and definitely not in the right order.
